This is a thing I desperately need help with, first of all, is it possible to link multiple ips to one server, for example, pvp.dreams.net and factions.dreams.net. I have the possible funds to buy these ips, I just need directions possibly on linking them to my server and places to find different ips that I can link to one server.

P.S This is my first post, I intend on to be a normal member!

Bump? Or am I not allowed to do that, I come from planetminecraft so for now Im going to assume that bumping is legal on this forums?

You should read the rules. Bumping is permissible once every 24 hours.

    Welcome to the forums!
Yes, it is possible to link multiple server IPs together. You could use software like BungeeCord or LilyPad to do it.

The thing about using that kind of a server setup is that it requires all of your proxy servers to be run in offline mode, with only the main hub server doing online mode authentications. Bukkit doesn't support offline mode servers at all, so if you choose to use that kind of a server setup, you won't be able to get as much help here on these forums if you run into problems.

I suggest doing some research into BungeeCord and learning more about how it works. Find the community that supports servers set up with that software and ask them some questions too. And then decide if that's what you want to use or not.

First, neither of those are IP addresses. Those are domain names, you can point both of them to the same IP address.

Oh of course, thanks for telling me this :D
P.S Oh and I just read the rules.

Wait, first of all I have no experience whatsoever with either of these software your talking about, if you could provide instructions for them that would be great (or a link <3) and second, arn't these domains I can just buy and link to one server?

I don't have experience with them either, I just know they are what you would use to do what you're asking. As for instructions or a link, I'm pretty sure you should be able to find something on them just by doing a google search for the names.

  8. Just as a minor point, the rules don't mention anything about bumping specifically, and the only sticky thread I've seen talk about bumping is the one in "Show off your Bukkit server!" which says no bumping without announcing a new feature or something.

Of course, could be wrong there, but to me the "24 hour rule" has always been one of Bukkit's unwritten rules that users just sort of have to figure out (or be told), not something they can read. :)

You know, I read so much in the first 48 hours of us taking over, you are correct. I may have to amend a section to the rules for that as url shorteners are not currently listed in the main rules either and should be.

  10. I think the logic was always that breaking terms = a ban. Since they didn't want ban for such things, it wasn't included in the terms. However a section for offences that don't result in an immediate ban might be a good idea. :)

I don't think you would even need Bungeecord to do this. You would have two servers and then just link the domain to the appropriate server. If you were using BungeeCord then you would link the one IP (hub.something.net) to the hub server. The players would join that server, jump through a portal to reroute them to the new appropriate server for their gamemode. There is no way to have multiple (pvp.something.net, factions.something.net) linked to a single server, with multiple gamemodes, without using different ports. For what you are wanting to do, you are going to need 2-3 servers, depending on if you use BungeeCord or not.

The easy answer is: Just point both pvp.dreams.net and factions.dreams.net to the same IP address in the DNS.

And yes, buy the domainname "dreams.net" and create the two hostnames "pvp.dreams.net" and "factions.dreams.net"
