I'm having trouble finding many helpful guides on the spawnmob command of Essentials. I'm hoping it's not just a weaker variant of summon.

First, I understand that it needs a target indicator in a command block. Is there any way to get the command in a command block to spawn a mob or mobs at coordinates?

Second, is there a way to give mobs potion or other effects? The uses of the data tag that I've found so far are somewhat limited - making sheep blue, giving villagers professions, deciding what armor mobs are wearing, etc.

Bear in mind that I'm in Bukkit 1.7.2.

From what I've experienced, a complicated /summon is far more useful than a simple /spawnmob. /spawnmob has the ability to, as far as I know, accept a player to spawn the mob(s) at, an amount, some degree of meta support, and a mob type name. /summon can spawn anything Minecraft can produce.

    The command syntax is

So /spawnmob sheep: (META_ID) 2 LordDarthBob and variants thereof should probably work.
Try playing around with /spawnmob sheep: (META_ID) amount x,y,z

I don't know your individual situation, and if /summon is not an option, /spawnmob is a bare bones alternative, albeit not useful for much aside from creating the mob. However, if this is the case, I'd suggest getting a plugin designed for spawning special mobs.

Yes, sadly as a Bukkit 1.7.2 server, we don't have access to summon. We can't update either, due to the DMCA takedown, as I understand this is fixed in later versions of Bukkit.

Do you know of plugins that will allow me to spawn mobs to coordinates with a command block? This is my main focus.

    That's a bit strange, I run a 1.7.2 Ro.3 server and use /summon regularly.

    We're running 1.7.2-R0.2-7-g169af45-b2985jnks.

In hindsight, we should have kept more up-to-date, but there's not a lot we can do about it right now. Many commands in this version can't be found by the game operating through Bukkit. Had I known so many fixes existed in 1.7.2-R0.3, I would have downloaded it, but I was not operating the server from the technical side at that point in time.
