Now that bukkit is basically dead or dying whats next for all you developers? I'm thinking of moving back to html, css, js and all of that or moving to android apps. Atleast until this all cools down and bukkit is back.

  2. Skionz For me, probably the next big Minecraft Bukkit replacement. Or I could get back into indie game making.

I have been making this huge bukkit project, for about 5 months, and now bukkit is closing? This is really annoying. Now I have to wait for bukkit to re-new it self, but I really know that it wont. And what if it really won't renew? I just wasted 5 months, approxamitly 150 days, for nothing? Well I hope not. I hope that Bukkit will get up on it's feet and continue coding, and make new bukkit versions. Even if there are other alternatives like Sponge, Spigiot, Rainbow, etc. I would have to re-code everything. And that sucks. I don't know what I would do if that would happen.

Meanwhile, the only thing that is left to do is to sit, and wait.

NonameSL Glowstone is implementing bukkit so your plugin should work when its finished. But otherwise yea I am pretty much waiting too.

Personally I'm just waiting to see if a new project presents itself to be superior and functional. I also have a small amount of faith Bukkit could make a comeback. Until then I'll keep hanging around Bukkit. Pretty much just watching and waiting.

I would keep my chin up. Bukkit does have at least a small chance of survival. Its future lies in the hands of two parties: Wolvereness and Microsoft--technically Mojang as well, but they don't have too much to do with the Bukkit collapse (see this for why Mojang is not involved in the crash).

In my opinion, Wolvereness shouldn't have issued the DMCA. I do support his reasoning, and I would be extremely infuriated, too, if some company had been using my code which I had labored over for years and didn't give me anything for it. However, I don't believe Wolvereness properly weighed the consequences of his actions. As everyone knows by now, because of the DMCA, Bukkit has been thrown into chaos and into the path of total destruction. I hold nothing against Wolvereness for what he has done, but I think he is taking it just a little bit on the personal side.

Aside from the huge Wolvereness thing, there's also the huge Microsoft thing. Also as everyone knows by now, Microsoft has officially purchased Mojang for $2.5 billion. Since Mojang had already purchased Bukkit 2-3 years ago, Microsoft purchased both Minecraft and Bukkit when they bought Mojang. Microsoft is now technically in control of Bukkit, aside from the whole community-run thing about Bukkit.

However, there's still this conflict with Wolvereness' ownership of his code and that stuff. The easiest solution to all of this extreme Bukkit chaos is for Wolvereness to simply change his mind and lift the DMCA. But even if that happens, Microsoft would then be in full control of Minecraft, as well as Bukkit if they choose to take involvement in it, unlike Mojang did at first. There's a good chance that Microsoft will want to take Minecraft Realms to a new level: the only form of Minecraft multiplayer. They may discontinue all Minecraft servers, which would make Realms the only way to play Minecraft with people around the world. I'm not very knowledgeable about Minecraft Realms, so I can't go very much further into detail with that.

So anyway, sorry if this is pretty misworded; I'm a little distracted as I write this. Just keep your hopes up. Bukkit has a small but real chance of survival.

pookeythekid Even if bukkit doesn't survive if glowstone become the dominant api we won't have to learn a new api :D

Lots of alternatives to turn to. Sponge, Arrow, Rainbow, Trident. Sponge and Rainbow both have somewhat a "bukkit bridge" plugin made or going to be made (Pore for Sponge).

We just have to wait for the dust to settle, projects to be done and we'll decide which we like.

Gater12 A "Bukkit bridge"? I didn't know people were doing that. Is this Bukkit bridge something that allows you to install Bukkit plugins and have it be compatible with Sponge/Rainbow/whatever you're using?

Gater12 Ah. That's nice. I guess there's still reason in continuing to develop Bukkit plugins, then: in case Bukkit happens to survive, and that Bukkit bridges are a backup for use of Bukkit plugins in case Bukkit does die. I'm still really hoping Wolvereness has a change of heart, though.
