Hi, I'm about to buy a better dedicated server. My server gets around 20-70, however we are still growing and going up the lists. At the moment we are running a E3 1245v2, 32gb ram, 240gb SSD, 250mbps up/down. We found this isn't enough for us, specially the 250mbps. The 240gb isn't enough space for us either, I've spoken to other network owners they host on SATA HDD and host around 1-3 servers on them. I'm about to get a E3 1270v2, 16gb ram, 1gbps up/down, 2tb HDD SATA. However I have a few questions, since we have Proxy + Hub + Survival (pve) + Factions (pvp) on the same dedi also a massive modpack called attack of the bteam. I was wondering if 8gb factions, 7gb survival would be enough? I could upgrade the dedi to 24gb to be safe but does survival + factions need that amounts? On the previous dedicated server we had 8gb survival and 8gb factions yet none of them even used 7gb. We have 30 plugins and both servers are a modpack (attack of the bteam) What do you think about the ram usage?

hello. here are some things to consider. if you are running a 32bit version of your opperatin system it is not capable of allocating the RAM correctly for a server. 32GB of RAM is a TON. for sure not the reason. second are you using a SERVER computer or a desktop that you are using only for hosting ?. 3rd your upload speed is going to be the BIGGEST factor of your servers speed, what i would do is have 2 HDD. the one SSD and one regular HDD, only run your operating system and server files on the SSD and everything else. (data that isnt read by server) on the HDD. and lastly depending on the java of your run.bat. you might not be using the correct amount of RAM for your server anyhow. hope this helps

You should be okay in the RAM department at 16 GB, and running the entire server off a disk drive usually isn't a problem, as the only time the server writes to the disk (synchronously) is during world saves (and logging), which don't usually occur all that often.

250mbit is plenty for a minecraft server. With the price of SSDs I'd suggest getting one that's got a bigger capacity. HDDs are much slower. 16GB of RAM is probably enough, 32GB shouldn't be much more in the way of cost.

With only 20-70 players your current server should be more than sufficient. If it isn't you need to look at what you're running and figure out where the problem is on your end (Software).

We did have a 240gb SSD, wasn't enough space since we have a survival map 15k radius all loaded + factions map were on there. Switching to HDD, I found no effect on the server. I am going to be getting 24gb ram, since we are on a modpack and I'll think about a SSD. btw the HDD is SATA II, its quite fast.

I have another question, DDOS protection. We are going to have 5gbps ddos prot which is quite bad. ?

We do not support mods or servers with authentication disabled.
