This plugin will spawn meteorites falling to the earth. On collission with the ground they will explode and leave a random ore covered by obsidian.
The default spawning rate is a chance of about 8% per minute (one player online).
    Version: v0.4
    Supported builds: 740, 766, 798

    Features:
    • Randomly spawns a meteorite
    • Allows shooting on targets
    • Generates a configurable ore on impact
    Download:

    0.4 [JAR] 0.3.1 [JAR][SRC] 0.2 [JAR] [SRC] 0.1 [JAR]

    Configuration:

    Edit the plugins/NeoMeteorites/config.yml
likeEveryXMinutesPerChunk: Sets the chance of a meteroite getting spawned.
The chance is set at 1 / (likeEveryXMinutesPerChunk / chunksThatAreLoaded).
If set to default (6000) and there is one player online, there is a spawning chance of ~8%. At 12000, it is ~4%. When more players are online (means more loaded chunks, the spawning rate will increase).
blocks: The block ids a meteorite can consist of.
shell: The block id of the material which covers the blocks obove.
fancyExplosionSize: The size of the explosions that are caused when the meteorite is in the air.
explosionSize: The size of the impact explosion. Set it to 0.0 to disable it.
numberOfExplosions: A meteorite can explode several times on the ground (it makes more damage).

    Permissions:
    Code:
                - 'NeoMeteorites.CallMeteorite'

    Commands:

    /meteorite - Will spawn a meteorite somewhere
/meteorite here - A meteorite will hit the block you are looking at
    /meteorite playername - Self-explanatory

    Issues:
    • You can't see meteorites, when they are too far away (explosion particles won't be displayed - When making the screenshot I was using a client mod, which disabled that). You can still hear the explosions.
    • Sometimes meorites will only fire if you come close.
    • One time for a server start you have to left click in the air to get meteorites working (I don't know why, also comfirm this please)
    Changelog:

    Version 0.4
    • Fixed several issues
    Show Spoiler

    Version 0.3

    Version 0.2
    • Added options: blocks, shell, fancyExplosionSize, explosionSize, numberOfExplosions
    • Addes the possibility to force a meteorite spawning (supports Permissions)
    Version 0.1

Wow this is very nice! I have a question though, is it possible to make it like the lightning plugins, where you can hit a certain area with your crossair or something (that little + in the center) and a meteorite will land there?

I agree it would be nice to control them.

Is it possible to set the damage to false and/or no to not leave anything behind after impact?

    I love you.

Could you add a "Force Meteor" command? /m or /meteor?

Sounds great! How big are the meterorites? eg. 1 ore, 3x3 ore, configurable?

This is a good idea. It is a bit complicated because I have to compute the starting positions and the angle backwards.

@Zarius: the size is randomly generated, at a maximum of 3x3.
I will add more options like damage, size and ore types in the next version.

Cool - will wait for the configurable damage. Not sure how much it does at the moment and whilst I'd like a massive crater I'm not sure players would like such a meteorite falling on their house :D

    WOW ! Wonderful plugin !

Please, would it be possible to :
    1) prevent falling meteorite (on/off) if cobblestone, mossy-cobblestone, sand-bricks, bricks or woodplanks have been detected in the meteorite land zone ?
    2) add a sounds ?
    3) add fires with nether-dirt in the impact of the meteorite ?
    ... more options :D

  12. nice plugin :) cant wait for the update

I think what many people would want is where when it lands, it doesn't destroy any blocks, but the meteorite still appears next to wherever it 'hit'

  14. Use WorldGuard then nothing is destroyed

I think, since not a lot of people use the Nether, you should have an option to toggle (or just add these to the different possibilities) Netherrack, Soulsand or Glowstone Meteorites.
(This reminds me a lot of the planetoids plugin lol.)

Oh, I have an idea for the whole "Meteors should destroy stuff, but not our houses" thing. What if they only landed on chunks that were generated less than 2 minutes ago or so? Nobody would have time to build anything there, and yet they wouldn't be impossible to find. Just a thought.

Another idea: No Meteors on chunks with beds in them. Making PARTS of your house (if you're not careful) fair game. That'd be interesting.

My ideato disable falling meteorite (on/off) if cobblestone, mossy-cobblestone, sand-bricks, bricks or woodplanks have been detected in the meteorite land zone would prevent the destruction of houses or other "human constructions". ;)

I for one take the time to cook my cobblestone back into stone for my buildings. So as that might be a good idea for some. It would not cover all building types done by humans. I do however like the idea of being able to spawn them in where you want them to land. Maybe let us disable the random spawning but make a command to spawn them where we want. Great plugin idea! I will be keeping my eye on this one.

I understand but your building probably have wood or other un-natural materials ? The meteorite would detect in its area the different un-natural materials to prevent the landing.

    Un-natural materials :
    - cobblestone
    - mossy-cobblestone
    - sand-brick
    - brick
    - glass
    - iron block
    - gold block
    - wood planks

I have another idea which would be to let the players (or admins) protecting a zone by building an "anti meteorite" totem (for example a totem of iron, gold and obsidian ?).

See, I like this idea a lot, but I think gold or obsidian would be too hard to obtain, and not everyone necessarily wants their houses being destroyed just because they didn't take the time to go mining, yet.

That's why I suggested a bed in my earlier post- relatively easy to obtain, and most everyone already uses them (or will use them) anyhow.

I like the idea. I also like how a meteorite could put a hole in my house. As long as it left me ores, then hey I am all for it. Also I think somebody mentioned above that if you can manage to get the meteorites to be seen then make 'em out of fiery netherrack.

    Question on the config:
if you change the number to something like 120, does that mean there might be a meteor every two hours or so, or does it make it less likely?

Very interesting plugin, I want to see it in action.

The idea looks really interesting, however, I can't just blindly add it to my server without able to see what it might do:
    1. I wasn't able to catch any single meteorite in my test server, so manual meteorite spawn command is needed
    2. Spawn chance is complete mystery for me:
So lets say my server has 3000 chunks loaded and likeEveryXMinutesPerChunk is set to 6000 then 1 / (likeEveryXMinutesPerChunk / chunksThatAreLoaded) would mean 1 / (6000 / 3000) which equals 0.5. Now I assume, that its 50% chance for meteorite to spawn, but I don't understand, over what period of time there would be 50% chance for meteorite to spawn?
So wouldn't be simpler to make a X spawn chance over Y period of time?

And of course, like mentioned in few posts before, ability to control meteorite damage, spawned materials and so on would be nice, and defining safe zones with 3rd party plugin or some kind of totem would also be nice.

Again, no hard feelings, i really like your idea, and I would really like that it would become more flexible, so I could bring it to my live server, but in the state, that it is right now, I just can't do it :(

    ---EDIT---
One more quick idea: multi-world support: I already have idea to make portal to another world, in which lets say 1-2 meteorites would rain every minute :D, so suicidal players could try go there on resource hunt hoping that they wont be killed by meteorite. :D

Looks great, but yea a way to control the damage would be nice. Just a damage value so we could turn it into a "ghast explosion" that way it can only damage soft blocks and glass.

Would be nice if it detected if it collided with stone/bricks or other materials commonly used for building houses and then ricocheted off in another direction.
