I got $50 for Christmas from my grandmother, and I want to host a server for my friend and my brothers. I have could get a desktop from Ebay for $45, but my mom would get mad at me as it would cost $10 per week to run. The two SoCs I'm looking at are the Cubieboard And the Raspberry Pi, here are the specs:

    -Cubieboard-
    1 GB RAM ddr3
1 GHz ARM Single-Core Allwinner A8 (There is a model with the A20 Dual-Core though)
    4 GB Flash NAND Storage
    $49.99

    -Raspberry Pi-
700 MHz ARM CPU (Overclockable to 1100 MHz)
    512 MB (ddr?) RAM
    $35 ($49.67 After Shipping)

I need to know if either one could support a minimal mostly-lag-free survival bukkit server with NoSpawnChunks and MobLimit.

If you are in need of just a few players http://www.swordnode.com is a nice option, (I'm one of the owners)
    Fully registered business.

You could get the 1/2 Gb Plan, which is equal to roughly 17 months (with $50) So instead of wasting all your money on a pi or cubieboard and end up only needing the server for 2-3 months you could go with us and save the money :)
Plus we offer DDoS Protection if one of your friends gets mad xD

The Cubieboard is definetly the better of those two, but it would really have to struggle. If you want to host it yourself, find a laptop with broken screen or something similar. You'll be able to get plenty of processing power for next to nothing.

Or go with a hosting solution. Even cheap hosting can turn out really good for small servers.

Small is an overstatement... My main computer is a VERY underpowered laptop, and my only other computer is a Dell Dimension XPS 600, which has a burnt semiconductor on the motherboard, and it refuses to find any boot devices... So I'll have to choose between the Cubieboard and a cheap server.
