A more "professional" server.

Hello, I have been wanting to make my server as professional as possible. In this thread, my goal is to see everyone's tips and tricks that you can do with Bukkit/Essentials/Or any other plugins, and use them towards my advantage or yours. I will go ahead and list some of the things I have done to make my server more "professional". I would love to see if there is any other tips/tricks you can do with Bukkit that falls under the same scheme as my list below.

1. I took out the brackets in chat, with EssentialsChat (I see a lot of new servers having brackets in chat, it make it look more noobish!)
2. Voting
3. Forums
4. A welcome book when you first join
5. Sapling kits for Skyblock
6. Broadcasting plugin
7. Spleef/MobArena
8. Custom/formatted MOTDs
9. Server icon
10. I try and have a reasonable amount of staff members, not make all of my friends staff.

Can I see your website? In order to be professional, I recommend a clean, modern website.

 

Be unique and mature. People don't want to see staff members talking about how "sexy" they are or something of that sort. Of course, it is always good to mess around a bit, but not to the extreme like I see many servers do.

A good spawn perhaps. Doesn't have to be 'magnificent' but organized and give players a feel the server won't disappear tomorrow.

 

Get rid of the ":25679" in your IP address. (Get a default port.)

 

Yes, that is the one thing I know will impact the amount of players the most. It is extra money on our hosting plan, I will see what I can do.

Hire a developer and get custom minigames. Use a domain for your website. Don't be just another survival, creative, factions, no arena server.

 

I like monkeys answer mature mods..there will always be jerks and ass****s It is a kids game but a good mature staff that does not sink to the lvl of the jerks I think makes for a good server..even with shitty plugins..with good plugins even better..when I first started i tried the enjin site and found it more childish..unless you pay for the upgrades but in that case renting a web host is cheaper in the long run..and after that you can set a dns like mc.domain.com to connect to your server

 

I plan on getting XenForo

 

XenForo is forum software you need a host first and really read the tos on hosting plans some are lets just say restrictive..

 

What forums do you use?

 

i use host gator baby plan http://www.hostgator.com/shared but if your starting out and with a small community you can use hatchling I used that before but they all got but hurt and sent me some emails saying im using to many resources so i upgraded to shut them up..thats why i say read the tos..you can also rent the domain name from them..i use phpfox software its more of a facebook like software www.tuminecraft.com I found it more interacting with members and i use a separate host for my forums instead of on my dedicated (what i use for the server) because i dont want to take away resources from the server

 

Damn, HostGator is much cheaper than my web host, and it provides more disk space + bandwidth.

 

go with medium plan the baby plan if you use java scripts like java chat rooms with the medium you aloud more resources..I have used them for 5 years now the problems i have had are
being bitched at for using to many resources (upgraded to medium solved that)
they seen to move me alot to a different server in the 5 years i have had them maybe 7 times moved to a different box each time no data was lost but had a couple hours of down time,,
other then that no problems and great support and they use cpanel you can make your own databases and unlimited emails also full ftp access..

The other day litterally the other day i was trying to install a wiki software and it called for 5.4 php version they had 5.2 installed i went into live chat with them told them my problem and in 10 minutes the php was updated..
