Why did they just update Bukkit for 1.6.4?
We're all waiting on 1.7.2. Waste of resources much? lol

Do you even read the changelog? It's a fix so that servers can save their structures for 1.7.2 updates.... It's a necessary update....

Isn't really needed cause I could save schematics of what i need

Why would the thread be locked? It's not like I made a post in all a caps saying "WHERES 1.x.x BUKKIT DOWNLOAD?"
All I'm saying is, I think they should be focusing on the new Minecraft update instead of the old one.

You do know that my post wasn't about OP's post right?

Also, you have to read my previous post about why 1.6.4 R2 is a necessary update

In all fairness the other thread you linked was locked for an unrelated reply... This one is an opinion on where bukkit priorities should be when moving forward with development. I can see both sides to the argument and while I personally would rather see more recourses spent towards. 1.7 release, I understand other peoples need to save their structures. Regardless, the bukkit team made a decision and moved forward with it. Progress is progress and eventually there will be a 1.7 and I'm happy with that (especially for a free service). Besides that, we can't see all that's being done and I'm sure they are still working on 1.7 as well (mentioned in evilseph's twitter) and sometimes adding more devs to a project can actually hinder its progress... Really I have no clue what's going on, but just have a lot of faith in the team :)

edit: typing from iPhone... Had to correct autocorrect in a few places :/

So if I just started up a vanilla 1.7.2 server for me and a group of friends, will I be able to just add bukkit once it is updated and our stuff be safe? Or was that only for servers that were already running on 1.6.4?

    Time for a lesson!
A structure in Minecraft is something like a Dungeon, village or stronghold.
A creation is a player made construct consisting of player placed blocks.

I suggest that you read the latest PSA for information on why 1.6.4 was released.
Stop being impatient, you are just delaying the team from working on Bukkit as they have to delete useless posts like this.

The most recent update that bukkit have released is to make sure pre 1.6.4 map don't lose their structures, so if you start a 1.7.2 vanilla map then you'll be able to install bukkit 1.7.2 once it's released and be good to go.

Also, "loss of structures" doesn't mean you would lose your buildings. Minecraft won't actually delete building. It just means that world generated building (like Nether fortresses, Villages, etc.) will no longer be recognised as "structures". So say there's a nether fortress in your world. The nether fortress won't get deleted, but nether fortress specific mobs, such as Wither Skeletons, will no longer spawn in it because Minecraft no longer recognises it as a Nether Fortress. The 1.6.4 update is designed to stop that from happening to pre 1.6.4 maps.

Hope that makes sense. :p and hope it helps!

This probably doesn't belong here, but how come I see servers with:
    1. server-icon.png
    2. Servers compatible with 1.7.2
    3. Servers running 1.6.4 and 1.7.2?

It's some sort of protocol hack which bukkit doesn't support.

Ok. I think I remembered hearing that somewhere else now that you mention it.
    Thanks!

It's funny how you call me a Kid, I would have taken the time to say 'good luck' instead of the lesser mature slang.
    Think before you post.
Plus, what does it matter to you? Unless you have something positive to contribute to the thread, don't post on it.

  20. You know.. I'm not one to rant over my patience running out.. Everyone's is and I think that our planet is large enough with lot's of bukkiteers so it's not really a nice thing to do something like that. True, the 1.7 update is a major one.
If anyone wants my advice in this case.. As an IT System Administrator, I also get lot's of change requests within my organisation. Some also take time and whenever I can, I let people know either how far the change is done OR in what time I predict that the change is done. Some people try to hold me to those timeframes, so I'm always clear to everyone that my guess is no guarentee. Still I do my best to keep to my words (they know that now) so there is a lot of trust built in and the impatience of my colleagues is very much less then I can see in just a few threads on this forum...

To the dev team: An estimate is mostly more welcome then shooting people down who are counting on you!
Even if you don't make that estimate, they will still (mostly) appreciate that you've taken the time te respond without making them look like complete idiots. And if you don't make it, just update that estimate. But never lie or make the estimate unrealisticly because there are actually some who are not idiots :p

(I think this is a sort of positive contribution right?)

The problem with that analogy you provide is you are giving estimates on the time it takes to provision a new server or complete a new project. That is a completely different beast than reverse engineering someone else's work, and wrapping it around an API you have to update for new changes in that company's work, and then providing a time for how long that will take you to complete. It is simply not possible to provide an ETA for this kind of task. We will have an update out as soon as possible - that's the best ETA we can provide.

Thread locked as it keeps going offtopic. The flaming and trolling is getting too much to adequate moderate.
