Hello, I want to run a server at home on a PC, but dont want to spend money on electricity. so i was thinking i could make my computer WakeOnLan when someone wants to get to it. i don't know how to do this and would appreciate help. Also when i put my computer to sleep and then trun it back on i get the overloaded message.

One of the problems you're going to have is the computer waking up every time someone somewhere refreshes their server list.

Modern computers only use around 60 Watts when idling. I don't know where you live, but even at 18 c/kWh, that's less than $8 per month.

A 1995 computer is unlikely to make an acceptable Craftbukkit server. What processor, speed, and memory does it have?

That's pretty nice. Win 7 on pc from 1995? You've propably configured them well but if you want to run a server on it then get 95 or 98 unless...it has nice specs somehow

Java requires Windows XP, Vista, Win7, Win8, or Windows Server 2008.

Waking up the computer each time will be more difficult than setting your computer to never enter into sleep mode.
Start > control panel > system > power > change plan settings > put computer to sleep: Never
You can still have the screen turn off, but not let it go into sleep mode.

I really Just Want to have my computer in sleep mode, plus having the screen turned off, but not let it go into sleep will take a lot of energy because it is an old computer

I might be wrong here, but even if it would be possible, i would imagine the player will long disconnect due to connect request expiring before the computer finished waking up.

i talked to my friend, he says a virtual tripline would be good. i think that too, because on the server list minecraft ping the servers. so if it tries to pink a certain address then it will wake you the computer! Any Ideas ojn how i can do this?

I still think disabling sleep mode is easier, and 3s is kind-of long for a ping.

i could make a loop to go back to my router, then try and ping it again
