The recent Minecraft update marks the 3rd major update since we launched the Bukkit Project. While the first one had us off to a rocky start since we weren't prepared, this one took us a record 4 hours to update with little to no bugs being reported after we had made the build available for public testing. While I'm sure most of you are already aware that we've had a Minecraft 1.4 compatible build available for 2 days now (in fact, we had one 4 hours after the update was released!) we're making a formal announcement for those of you living under a rock.

As with any update please bear in mind that plugins may not be updated yet and that you should give Plugin Developers a few days to get their plugins working before you update. We strongly suggest you run a test server before you go live with this build to make sure all your plugins are up to date and working (see this post for more tips on what to do when a Minecraft update is released).

    Without further ado,
Download CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.4 here

If you're just getting started, please read and follow this guide:

Thanks for all your support and bringing down our website. We really didn't anticipate this much traffic and interest. It's really awesome having to work to keep the server up!

Really appreciate all the work you're doing. You've facilitated a lot of good times.

However, this sort of front-page update is tremendously helpful for everyone, not just those of us who can't manage to read through a few hundred forum posts to find out whether an update is ready. And even if you do read every post on the forum, a quick, "official" notice will save you the hassle of a lot of those questions with (supposedly) easy answers.

If possible, a version number & release date of the current recommended build SOMEWHERE on the front page would probably go a long way toward cutting down on those "basic" questions. And the level of interest in those basic questions should be taken as a compliment that people appreciate and use your work.

If you don't want people asking stupid questions, make the answers stupidly easy to find. As of right now, they aren't.

Great work overall, Bukkit Team. Thanks again.

Thank you for your great work.

Splendorr: Go to the IRC channel I was there along with others.. it was the best place to get updates. I suspect everyone who can code or who understands coding was working on fixing and patching.

so.. if we had a reporter it would slow things down. I guess.

IRC worked.. worked quite well actually.

    Bukkit team! thanks!

So, that's good advice, if you are in a position to keep an IRC window open and participate there, which I'm not always. I'm running a small server for me and a few friends, I've got this job thing that I go to for most of the day... and I acknowledge that, as a so-called administrator it's up to me to do some heavy lifting. Great. I've done and will do the legwork, even as little as is required because of Bukkit's greatness.

(Does the IRC channel have a bot that announces the current recommended build or something? That would be a good start. And, this is going to sound crazy... but where's the IRC channel listed on the web site?)

Thing is, I work really well when I can check a basic status page, or there's an RSS feed that pings every time a Recommended Build is promoted, or something like that. Something basically passive. Pull the current build number from wherever that's kept somewhere, put that variable on the front page, theoretical boom. Make it easy on yourselves to make it easy for the people who use your software.

Does that make sense? Do I sound especially needy or like my use-case is way out of scope? I don't think it is.

I suppose this would be better-suited to the "Website Feedback" forum.

Edit: Okay, so I found this page: http://ci.bukkit.org/job/dev-CraftBukkit/Recommended/

Good. That's fine, but it took a long time for me to find it. Just that exact headline, just put that on the front page somewhere with a link to the .jar. That's what I was looking for.

    @Splenddor IRC listed here: http://forums.bukkit.org/pages/about-us/
    Latest RB: http://ci.bukkit.org/job/dev-CraftBukkit/promotion/latest/Recommended/
    RSS Feed for RB: http://ci.bukkit.org/other/latest_recommended.rss

The IRC channels topic is normally updated with the latest RB within the hour.

As posted in Feb (Feb 20th to be exact): http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/introducing-recommended-builds.5137/
It's in the news forum, so it shouldn't have taken that long to find information on RBs.

Forgive me if i'm wrong but,

For the BukkitWiki guide on setting up a server,
Does this mean there is a new way of setting up bukkit servers on Mac OS X?
It's different from the normal procedures where by you have to type "cd -space- (drags server file in)" blah blah blah.... then go to textedit to make the Start.command .....

Could someone give me an answer?
    Thanks alot :)

(I'm assuming it's not just me still having problems with the forums here) Is there an estimate of how long until the site is running properly again? Was just settling in to start collecting all the updated plugins to match the latest build but I can't access any of them :(

I am noticing in the build that my server will shut down with a ton of endOfStream errors. Very odd. It is coming from Bukkit, no plugins. This means I cannot keep the server up. Started with #617.
