Hey, i need to know if this is enough for a bukkit server with around 20 plugins and 40-50 players. It will be running 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04

    Specs

    • 4 CPU Cores
    • 4096MB RAM
    • 40GB disk
    • 2000GB Traffic
    • dual Intel Xeon E5-25XX threads @ 2GHz
The Biggest concern i have is that the traffic wont be enough.

iSidle That is plenty of 'traffic' unless every player would be connected and active 24/7.

Thanks, and about the specs? would they be able to run a mc server smooth?

The specs are fine, I have played on servers with worse and they still run decent.

    What. 25 threads?

2 GHz isn't the most powerful, but it'll handle a fair number of players. Having a pile of cores won't help run one server better because most of the processing time will still be on only one of those cores.

Older dual-L5 processors have better performance than the E3's.

    Just sayin'.

If Bukkit was multi threaded, yes but sadly it will not utilize more than ONE core therefore you're better with more GHz than number of cores.

You clearly haven't tested a Craftbukkit server running on a dual L5 versus an E3-1230.

    I'd get a clock speed around 3 - 3.5GHz

that is too expensive for me, i have about £5-8 a month and this is the best deal i could have with this budget, im paying £5 a month now @ OVerZold, maybe i can afford one later if I get enough donations for my server.
