RPG Items and colored leather armour

Color is confusing. How do you set the color of leather armour? I tried the following command: /rpgitem [NAME] item leather_chestplate hex FF00FF
but the item did not change to purple. thoughts?
RPG Item 3.3
Bukkit 1.5.2 R1.0

EDIT:
Ok, after a server reset the RPG Item turned black and said "dyed". I tried the above command again and BAM i had purple boots. Tried a few other hex's out and it changed ALL the boots. So, seems to be a bug where the needs to reset. weird....weird indeed.
