Is anyone else like this? I have my own personal server, and thats where me and my friends play, I have a pretty powerful computer/internet connection so the server isn't lagging... but when I sit there on different servers and I really don't want to become a dedicated player... mainly because your not in charge of the server so it can shut down any point and you lose everything you ever built in that server... I don't care how nice your server is or even what plugins it has, I will never ever everrr... become a dedicated player on it... I build everything huge on my own private server where I'm in charge of how long it lasts... anyone else feel this way?

Do you make regular backups of your server? Do you store them off-site?

Unless the answer to both questions is yes, you could "lose everything you ever built in that server".

    Yes and yes. Minecraftnewbie

All server owners that know what they're doing, do this.

If I was to become a dedicated player on another server.. I would join to meet people and become a good member of the community, I wouldn't really care if I lost builds ^.^

I have a similar setup except I allow anyone to have the entire server build out complete with backend SQL if they want it. My backup consists of a single ZIP file that once extracted will run without any modifications assuming the firewall is allowing access to the proper ports.

I figure if someone thinks they can do what I do better, have at it and good luck. However, my primary reason for this is to provide the users protection should something happen to me. This way they have access to the world files if they want to keep builds, or even try to bring the server back online themselves.
