Is it possible for someone to update CHDistantFarm for Minecraft 1.5.2 / craftbukkit-1.5.2-R0.1? Or maybe create a new plugin to keep plants growing appropriately? This seems to be a very overlooked area for plugin creations.
The problem with CraftBook is that someone has to have the permission to do so, they need to take time out of whatever they are doing to do so, and if everyone has the permission to do so, there may be a lot of chunks being anchored, farms may move, and chunks may never be unloaded as their anchors (hidden, no doubt) are left behind. CHDistantFarm automatically kept active plant's chunks loaded, and unloaded them when the plants were no longer growing/needed to grow. No one else interested in this project? Two years ago, there would have been at least half a dozen people that were interested in updating it by now.
This isn't possible to do without keeping chunks loaded all the time and if you have lots of plants it would therfore have to keep LOTS of chunks loaded at one time and put a lot of stress on the server.
False, sort of. If the plants are spread all over the server, yes, it would require a lot of chunks. If planting was only allowed in a specific area (and there are plugins for this), there would not be a lot of chunks that have to stay loaded. That sounds remarkably like what I said. But I was saying IF they had them all over. But yes it's true that they could just use it in a certain area.
