Should Admins have Creative and /give on a survival server?

My admins are whining saying I'm "copying" and looking at the negative side. Should I go through with my idea for taking their creative since it is survival?

NOTE: We have PlotMe for everyone so that there is a creative world.

EDIT: If it exists is there a plugin that prevents spawning items in.

They are your admins, I hope you trust them enough to give them creative and /give.

As a full console-access admin on a pretty large server, if you want someone in charge of your playerbase but you don't trust them enough to give them admin, make them a moderator. A mod is basically just a "weak" (see below) admin without op and some of the commands, which sounds like what you want.

There are really two typical types of commonly used "admins", and they both should probably have what you say:

    - "Weak" admin, called junior admin on some servers, has op, and with it, all commands. They can take care of any in-game problem. They can't, however, access the console, which means they can't change configs, install plugins, etc.
    - "String" admin, usually called senior admin, super admin, or just "admin", has everything a weak admin has, plus console access. They can pretty much do everything the owner can do except for, say, logging into his/her Buycraft account.

On your forums, weak admins would probably behave like a mod with a few extra features, while your strong admins would behave as a full admin with access to change around the entire site.

Mind you, everything is your own choice, but if I'd have a hard time taking a server seriously that had "admins" that had less power than either of those.

    3 types of admins
    - "weak" "trial" "semi" admin standard bypasses, bans, kicks etc
    - "Strong" Admin aka Admin has everything trial/semi/weak admin has but more commands and more bypasses.
    - Super admin - has world edit, can spawn items, no game mode.

Avoid ^ all 3 if your admins are 12 years old,
    Start with "Moderators"

  5. Yeah you should, but, it's your server your decision, If It was my server I would give them creative and /give
(I really see no difference in /give and creative mode, you can find admin abuse easily with /give, just get like a command spy, when he does /give and trys to spawn people stuff, theeer ya go)

If you want your staff to understand the game-play style you are trying to deliver then they should play like every other user on the server. Players won't always report bugs and if your staff is doing nothing but playing in creative they will miss the opportunity to stumble on bugs and fix them.

Not to mention that your staff won't understand what changes actually need to be made to improve the game-play style you're trying to deliver because they are playing a completely different game-play style.

When I ran a server, I disabled Op and made the admin accounts only have a different tag; the idea was that they are your fellow players, but can be used to report bugs or other issues. Anything privileged had to be done through console, which discouraged people from having easy-access to in game power.

I STRONGLY disagree with the notion of a "trial" ANYTHING. If you don't have full confidence in someone's ability, you should not be giving them power. Training is one thing, trial is quite another.

You should never OP anyone. In the case of a compromised account, things can get ugly, fast.

Its really highly dependent on the situation at hand. Really, commenting here would serve no purpose because its such a situational thing. However, I myself like to give my administrators everything from teamspeak admin, op in game + admin tags with the '*' node and forum admin on the website. Want to know why? Because they usually spend about six months attaining such a rank and I have nothing but trust for them. Don't be fooled though, install a backup plugin. On my server, once every night a set of shell scripts backs everything up, so even if they do ever turn on me(unlikely, highly unlikely) the damage done is very minimalistic. In any case, just make sure you aren't giving them EVERYTHING, like ftp/ssh/whatever they can use to get into your minecraft folder. If they want to help you with that, just share screens on a skype call or the like, don't actually give them access unless you have known them for a LONG time. For example, I have three administrators(its really a joint ownership) who have access to both of my dedicated boxes. All of which I have known for 1-2 years.

If you are the server host, why not OP yourself?

I suggest, for the TS, to just make themselves OPs and keep a keen eye on the console.
    Also, use Anti- Grief plugins.

EDIT: If theyre whining, I wouldnt trust em that much.

Which is why in my last post, I said to keep a keen eye on the console. You can op yourself, because you could easily deop your self in the case of a compromised account.
