A new CraftBukkit Beta Build (1.5.2-R0.1) that provides Minecraft 1.5.2 compatibility is now available.

Will plugins break with this build?
Provided the developers of the plugins you are using are keeping up with the development of Bukkit, all your plugins should work fine, with the exception of plugins that use Minecraft or CraftBukkit code.

    What is a Beta build?
A Beta Build is in between a developer build and a Recommended Build. These builds simply work and are promoted much more frequently than a Recommended Build. While we will do some testing before promoting a beta build, we will not be running it through our extensive test process. As such, there are no guarantees that they will not contain minor bugs. If we do find out they are broken, we will mark it as such on DLB and promote a new one. A beta build may contain incomplete API and new features but they should not interfere with running the build in any way.

This particular Beta build, like every first Beta build for a Minecraft update, is primarily made available to help facilitate more testing coverage to bring us closer to a Recommended Build sooner. Please consider running this Beta build to give us a hand with discovering issues we need to address in order to reach a Recommended Build.

    Known Issues:
    • None.

For more detailed information on what is contained in this update, please see the changelog here.

This is true, but got a beta version ... I would like to make servrer where you can play all the time, and if I had some kind of bug that will have to install the new version and the world disappears, it's sad. So would love to see the recommended version!

Yes, but 1.5.1 came out in March, and we haven't seen a Recommended Build since January with 1.4.7.

The Beta build is perfectly stable and you should feel free to use it. I run a whitelisted server with about 5 active players and we've been running beta builds since early April. That's almost 2 months of beta builds and no issues.

Any news on when a recommended build is coming out?

I know we are all waiting, I do not want to use a beta build. Do not fancy that sort of risk if anything helps. Never do beta stuff really.

    Thank you!

The problem is that it would have such a shame to come to kill the dragon, and then suddenly find that he is immortal! Or else, some sort of important bug but not as noticeable. Because on this server we will play long, and if something is not as it would be epic fail

You are correct that Mojang released 1.5.2 in May, May 2 to be exact. However, the 1.5 update was released March 13. The current recommended build is for 1.4.7, released January 9. Server owners and plugin developers have been waiting patiently for an update that does not seem to be forthcoming. Mojang has been ramping up production towards the 1.6 update, releasing snapshots showing a nearly complete update, so are we to assume that Bukkit is also waiting on this to release a new build? With more and more plugin developers only releasing updates along with recommended builds, as a community, we need Bukkit to update soon after a new version is released (I am referring to 1.5 here, NOT 1.5.2) so that our servers run properly and our players don't leave since they updated and can no longer connect while we await the recommended build. To all the Bukkit staff, your community needs you. PLEASE give us at least some kind of recommended build other than 1.4.7. Beta builds are exactly that: beta builds. They are not 100% stable or they would be recommended builds. Please help us out here. Sometime before 1.6 as well, please.

It would seem that Bukkit has taken longer and longer with getting updates out as time goes on. Before 1.3, the average time it took to release a recommended build was around 18-20 days, not bad. Since that time, however, it has sometimes been months since a recommended build was released, the worst so far being the update from 1.4.2 to 1.4.5 which took around 55 days. Here are some numbers to consider. Before, and including, version 1.3, it took an average of only 17 days to get a recommended build. Since that time, the average time for a recommended build has been over 43 days. So far, it has been 58 days since 1.5 was first released, the worst ever. Why is this? Why are the times between the Mojang update and the Bukkit recommended build getting further and further apart, often times skipping entire updates (which would be the case again if the recommended build comes out after the release of 1.6)? There have been 132 development and beta builds so far for 1.5, but no recommended builds. I believe the lack of any comments from any of the Bukkit staff about this growing concern that we as players and server owners have shows a lot. Let's hope that this pattern does not continue to repeat itself, or we may end up having to run servers on versions of Minecraft months old since most plugin developers have said that they will only be releasing updates with Bukkit recommended builds.

God damn, this is terrible. Not funny at all. If Bukkit stuff can't make updates anymore, do we have to use Vanilla servers for 1.6 or even 2.0?

What’s the issue with a beta or dev build?

I do not know how he is, but I covered this question earlier. I want a world where I can play a very long period of time. While the beta version of the option means the presence of any problems, of course, they will soon be corrected but in this case it is necessary to generate knit world and all that it used to disappear. I would be very reluctant to do it, so I expect 100% working version. Which still is not!

I do not like to use beta builds. Just not for me.

Specially on a server running a beta file you know, just the way I think and not done me any wrong so far.

I have not played Minecraft in such a long time as I am waiting for a recommended build from Bukkit :)

I would rather a 100% safe and working build than a beta which to me is a maybe fully working but we do not know saying it seems. You know?

I've been using CraftBukkit a while, and I've only ever encountered 1 issue while using development builds (which are considered less stable than beta builds). RBs aren't guaranteed to be free of all issues, just more stable than betas.

Naturally, there may be a problem, but the chance of this is less than the guaranteed! Especially if we find bugs in the recommended build, can swear to you;) But it is encouraging that for 6 days no dev build, I hope that it is near

    I look at
    #2778 1.5.2-R0.2 Development Build
and I want to cry and curse

    where the recommended version? (

It appears that there have been NO changes since May 3, over three weeks ago. At this point, might as wekk make the beta the recommended version and call it a day.

To all those who are complaining about the long time it took to get a RB bukkit, Listen :

    - Dinerbone is tthe minecraft guy.

    End ot story.

This guy is a hard worker as fuck, the fucking hero of bukkit, now he works at mojang. And the minecraft updates, are now fucking amazing, because this guy is in love of minecraft.

The biggest problem was a skip of 1.5(1.5.1) RB for 1.5.2 development.

First of all, Dinnerbone is not the ONLY person who deals with Bukkit and the updates. Saying that he is is just plain stupid. Also, since he went to Mojang, maybe you have noticed that the times between Mojang updates being released and Bukkit recommended builds being released has gotten larger and larger.

As for the problem with beta and development builds, how about the fact that most mod creators have said that from now on, they will NOT update any of their mods until a recommended build is released. So, that means, at the very least, Essentials and all related programs are no longer being updated. This is a HUGE problem for those of us who use and run Essentials and related programs on our servers. I can't use a plugin that is only stable for 1.4.7 on a 1.5.2 jar. It just won't work. So, until we can get a recommended release and stop this downward spiral, it does look like more servers will be forced to start using Vanilla builds, which, by the way, our players absolutely hate, or find some other program like Bukkit that allows us to use mods on our servers. I just doubt there are any real competitors, unfortunately, as maybe that would put a little fire under them and get stuff rolling.

This doesn't seem to be a problem for me. I have 19 plugins, and every single one works perfectly with the 1.5.2 beta relase.

Wow! A beta build before 1.5.2 was even out! And no issues! Great work! Keep on going until we reach the recommended build. Mojang really should slow down, the recommended build is still on 1.4.7, and before you know it we have a 1.6 update with 1.4.7 servers.

Indeed, Bukkit describes this beta build thusly:
So, if I want to do beta testing then I will run the beta build. If I am a developer of plugins I can test how my plugins are likely to work in the RB. The beta build isn't for running 'in production'.
Perhaps Bukkit adopted the Google definition of beta? That continual improvement and a willing for it all to be right for the user constitutes several years of being in beta? If so, then it would be nice to know that this is the decision.

The Git pages for CraftBukkit and CraftBukkit-Bleeding show no commits for about a month. One branch shows an update to the blaze breath sound four days ago. I don't mind waiting longer, but it would be nice to hear from the devs that it is currently a busy time in the real world and that development may be halted for a short while. Be open with all of development, not just the code.
