    Hello bukkit.org,

I made this topic to ask a simple question. Does the operating platform influence server by any ways? I mean, it`s a difference between hosting a bukkit server on CentOs or on another platform? I saw that MineOs is specially made for hosting minecraft servers, so i ask you if the server performances will be upgraded with MineOs!

    Thanks.

EDIT: I know that performances are increased on Linux more than on Window, but i reffer strictly to Linux...

I was wondering if there can be performance differences between CentOs, Debian, Ubuntu, etc and MineOs (whis is told to be made for minecraft only), can the server run better on MineOs?

Depends which operating system you use. If you choose Windows it'll be easier to manage since it's user friendly, however, your server may suffer decreased performance since Windows can sometime hog a lot of system sources (RAM etc).

If you decide to with a Linux distro however, it may possibly be harder to manage since it's not as user friendly as Windows, although it uses less resources than Windows, therefore somewhat increasing system performance.

So in a nutshell, Windows for easier management at a cost of slightly reduced performance, or Linux at a cost of less user friendly, but will slightly increase performance somewhat.

    Hope this helps!

Windows servers use more power due to the GUI (interface) but in general Linux servers use less, Java is on most OS's

You shouldn't really see a noticeable difference between different linux distributions. It basically comes down to preference, there are some small differences between the different distributions, just use whatever you like best and have the most experience with. I have never used MineOS before, but from my understanding it is just for ease of use, and shouldn't have any noticeable performance differences either. You can read a bit more about MineOS here: http://minecraft.codeemo.com/comparison.html
