Importing Spawn & Stuff on a New Map

    Dear Bukkit-Loving Minecrafters,

    I am begging for your help for this particular situation when you have to update your Server (Version and Map) but willing to keep the same Spawn without disturbing the current Plugins Settings, Warps, MobArena, Jail and many things I cannot think of right now.

    Let's say 1.5 is out tomorrow (another scenario could be my survival map has become a mess I need a new one), I need to have some Delicious Quartz generated with a brand new seed. However I would love to avoid having to manually re-config all my plugins and warps to fit the new "coordinates" of my Spawn.

    Here is what I thought:

    I could meticulously //copy my Spawn with MCedit or Worldedit while being on a particular previously saved block and //paste my loved spawn on the new map while standing on this block. This way I could recreate all the previous geographic conditions for my plugins. Well that sounds pretty sexy on the paper but I have this feeling I'm gonna end up in one of those utoob epic minecraft fail compilation.

    Guys, can you share some tips with me? How did you manage to perform this when enchanted books were out? Did you manually "re-setup" your spawn and plugins?

    PS: This question could be applied to someone who simply wants to regen his map without having to manually do it with worldedit except that I need the new features (like Quartz) to be implemented in my map.

    If you want the new quartz, just delete the old nether files, no need to change anything at your spawn or elsewhere in the normal map.You will of course lose the old Nether, but most will be happy to no longer have to walk a million blocks to find glowstone.

    Why would spawn care if enchanted books get released? It's not like they pop out of mined ore that wouldn't exist on old maps. Same with almost all plugins, the fact that books got enchantable didn't break anything per se.

    When new ores get released, or when the map generator changes, that's when you really got to look into getting a new map, but not for items etc.

    Thank you for your answer, I'm sorry I probably sound really confusing, my problem is the following:

    1. My map is "raped", lot of players caves and stuff, cobble towers growing everywhere etc etc..
    2. My current spawn on this map contains tons of warps and plugins settings that rely on very precise coordinates in order to work.
    3. How can I export my spawn on a new map without loosing all those settings (simply //pasting the spawn on a new map would break all my warps & plugins).
    (Another question would be: How can I keep my Spawn and //regen the rest of the map very efficiently?)

    I hope I made myself clear (sorry i'm not native)

    However thank you for your advice regarding the nether world, I'll definitely go with that one too man :).

    You would have to save your warp data then, depends on what plugin you use. And if there's "tons of other" settings you have to preserve those as well. However, there's no command or plugin or any such thing to do this, you have to do that manually.

    Sounds like it would be easier for you to keep the old map, delete all region (.mca) files except the one(s) that contain spawn. That way it's all new and gets generated again, except spawn.
