Okay I know this sounds outrages, But i believe i must have read about it some time ago.

A server can be set up and be linked to a website or of some sort, and when the host closes the server, the site continues it to run, and so making it possible for players to continue on playing. when the host opens up the server again it downloads the contents from the site and continues on normally.

I might be wrong on this but I must of read it somewhere that this is possible, i just can't remember what it was called, whether it was a plug-in, or even if it was true.

Impossible, Yes thats it NOT Possible, Even if you would use some kind of server TP it would just Close on you, Cause the server isnt running so?

So you are saying you have a server hosted elsewhere, acting as a backup... and when you have the main up, it directs you there.. otherwise to the backup server?

This is possible, although I do not see a point in doing so. Why not just use the backup server? And if it is possible, BungeeCord may be what you are looking for. And you'd need a plugin to synchronize the data. Or an external program.

minecrafterwork I steal plugins as my own

    Not possible

All you people saying this is not possible, do some research. This would be possible with the use of offline mode and bungeecord.
Although it would be very very pointless.

This would require the site to be able to run minecraft, which it is not prepared to do (Not enough RAM on a web server) Furthermore, your hosts most likely wont allow this as they would not be familiar with the software, and would not offer any support in this matter.

Sorry, but this isn't possible, but at least I explained why

nhadobas This isn't even possible with BungeeCord, as he wants a seamless transition form one server to the other

Yes this is....you would connect the backup server to bungeecord, then create a plugin where on a server close the players get disconnected to the backup server. Read over bungeecord before you assume something.

Even more so impossible, Bungee Cord requires proxies, and you cannot do that with a hosted web server

    nhadobas

Dude....you just connect the servers together. I'm not even going to argue with someone who doesn't understand bungeecords API.

Edit: it's not possible to do it the way he is describing it, but it is possible to do it using 2 hosted servers, bungeecord and a custom bungeecord plugin.

Exactly, you can't do these things:
    1. Run a minecraft server on a web server
    2. Have a seamless transition between the 2 servers with BungeeCord

    nhadobas

It wouldn't be seamless... It would say "server shutting down, transferring players" Then it would just be like a world transition. They would all be moved to the other server.

Bungeecord is a proxy so to do so, he must keep the bungeecord main server running on website host, i don't think his website host will allow it.

We are not arguing over that anymore. The other person thinks there cannot be a transition from one server to another after one server has shutdown.

Why would you need 2 servers? Why not just have one (if it's possible) on a website host?

  16. Offline

    gomeow

Miapo because you can't put a minecraft server on a web server (unless you own it, which defeats the purpose)

maxicus, this is possible through various methods. Although xPaw has written some code to accomplish something of the sort.

Royal_Soda He wants it to be so you can actually play on a server on the web server

On that note, gomeow, then just rent two VPSes, and set them up with Bungeecord.

Royal_Soda I would suggest reading the posts more thoroughly, as this is not what the OP wants

I know this is possible because I have done this with my server, I have a plugin that I made where when I close my server a backup kicks in and people then can reconnect, although it is a completely different world every time, I was never able to make it so I can set it as a world I want to load up. I also cant save user data once I turn my main server back on, even though I believe it is possible to create this Plugin you are wanting, I believe you will just need to buy a host to make it run in "Offline mode" where people can still connect. Although, lag would be massive. The way I have set mine up was with a bit of tweaking on some Plugins, and then coding a simple Plugins.

I tried it with Tekkit Servers, and also Feed The Beast Servers and they "Sometimes" do it automatically, although like I said, once you shut your server down, sometimes a new one kicks in, but its not the same world that 'your' server has on.

I do think it would be wonderful getting this plugin created, although you would need some pretty smart people out there...

iPadHD He asked for it to be able to be hosted on a web server: Impossible

Fair Enough, although there are other ways about this...

A web host cannot run a Minecraft Server.

Your idea is kind of clever, but not possible (yet)

Maybe you could connect a website to a VPS and use a keep-alive, but that's another story, and cannot accomplish what you want to do.

Hmm, I wonder if there is literally ANYWAY to do this... I am going to do some research and try it out. But, I still only know of my way...

Completely Impossible. If they shut down the server the host no longer is providing information. Any movement or command will log you off.

Not to be rude, but your wasting your time.

The only useful reason I could imagine for having a server run from a site is if your under maintenance or having downtime and want to set a white-list message to let people know what's going on.

Thank you all for replying to the topic. i found your answers quite useful. I only had the problem that my online server couldn't always be online since i am using my office's internet connection to run the server and during night time i had to switch it off... therefor players couldn't join at night. I fixed this by running the server at home on a wireless modem, that i now leave on 24/7 and only "stop" the server for a minute a day to save all the data.

You don't need to restart the server to save data.
As far as I know, it does it automatically, and if not, I think you can just do /save-all
