    The Idea:
I would love to create a thread talking about plugins that all have similar purposes. As an example: rollback plugins, base economy plugins, PVP arena plugins (Battle Knight, War, ECT). I think although there might not be a ton of topics to discuss, that it would benefit a lot of people that don't understand the differences or don't have time to research them. A typical response would be telling key difference's in detail that make this plugin better/worse/different/good for... Things to consider (although by no means limited to) lag, customization, java coding/cleanness/lightwieghtness (yes, it's a word, deal with it), dedication of developers, specific purpose or reason to use, etc. People who post information/opinions should try to post in the format below or some variation of it for clarity and ease, this is not required, just a thought to consider.
    Name of Plugin:
    Category of Plugin:
    Thoughts:
    Verdict:
People could ask questions on whatever plugins they were trying to choose from or give a description of something they wanted. Finally, all this would be based around the idea of a certain category as I mentioned above. I would love suggestions or tweaks to these, but here's me spit balling categories, feel free to classify a plugin as one of these or as I said make a new category suggestion. I'm also aware that many plugins could be classified in multiple categories.
    Categories:
    Rollback:
    Anti-Grief:
    Lag Reduction:
    Chat:
    Economies:
    Anti-Xray:
    Anti-Spam:
    Anti-Cheat:
    PVP Arena/Gamemodes:
    Auto Announcer or Scheduler:
    Ban or Jail Related:
    Teleportation:
    Buy/Sell/Trade Related:
    RPG's:
    Permissions:
Player Monitoring (this includes PVP logging):
Other: (just really for answering questions regarding finding a plugin, all the plugins that don't have enough close alternatives to have there own category)
Once again, any ideas or suggestions are much appreciated, this is just a rough draft. Also, if you like the idea and want to start the conversation, go for it! PLEASE ONLY YOUR PLUGIN IF YOU TRULY THINK IT FITS.

No... We don't support piracy as a community. At all.

Also, please unbold all of that. Bold is for making important words or titles stand out. :p

Seems like an interesting idea. People are always posting threads like "Towny or Factions?" or "Best Permissons Plugin?", so maybe this can help them get a better idea of the differences (although they really should research and see which one fits their server the best).

Nice signature, by the way. :)

I see how the login/auth could be an issue, thanks. I also agree that you should research all your plugins thoroughly, but I was thinking that this would be a nice place to start your search. Additionally, I have been toying with the idea of just general plugin suggestions. I find one of my issues in my early server development (before I knew java to code my own crap) was finding plugins to meet my needs. Yes, bukkit/dev does break them down into categories, but these are very broad and it could take hours searching for the right plugin before I found it. This way the community could help out with some of the lesser known plugins and also eliminate that searching. Ideas or thoughts on that? Thanks for your feedback :) *I've noticed that already in the last day there have been two comparison threads up.

np98765 Do you think it would be feasible and helpful to compare server hosts as well?

Personally, I think that that won't end well, because there are so many opinions on so many hosts. It'll end up turning into a flamefest; the opinions on hosting are too varied, as everyone's experiences and expectations are quite different.

Fair enough. After more consideration, I realized that the thread would basically become a thread for advertising hosts and that nothing really productive would get done.

I use NoCheat+ and Orebfuscator to curb cheaters, works great after spending a lot of time tweaking them. I use logblock for roll backs, and teleplusplus for teleporting :)

Cool, can you tell us why these speceific plugins are the best? Why not Anti-Cheat or FoundDiamonds? How about CoreProtect or Swatchdog? What makes these plugins better in your mind?

    jerry98765 They're made by me, it's pretty self-explanatory ;)
Nah, I'm not really submitting my own. If others do, that'd be great :D

There is a website (might be more) that actually do this.
Plus you would have to search quick a bit for information since anything ont eh front page might be opinion based :p

Link? I have looked for a website like this but I cant find it. Also if it's not a bukkit website then...? Plus I feel as though it would be hard to try and describe a plugin to a computer, there's nothing like reall people to awnser your questions. Also I'm a little unsure of what you're saying in the second part, this is not based on what the developers put on the page, it's based on the plugin in our own eyes (how lightwieght it is, how much lag we actually get, how well it works, bugs, ETC even though these are bad examples). Plugin developers can't lie about the features that there plugin has soo, maybe I misread your post or you misread mine but the whole idea of this thread is to actually research or used the plugin so you can share these real effects with the community. Your point about developers being bais toward there plugin is one of the reasons I wanted to create this thread. Thanks for your feedback though :)

np98765 thanks for responding to my questions, I've got another. I was just wondering if this thread might be better off being moved to bukkit help. Do you think it fits there more because the idea is going to be about helping others find and learn about plugins?

    http://plugin-alternative.com/
Since you asked and it is for bukkit plugins only.
I am not tryign to knock your idea though :p
Instead I would recommend making a website of your own since no one uses the one I provided and people actually want such a thing.

Hmm well this seems to have only 5 plugins... it lacks even basics, as an example they don't even have world edit and factions. Honestly I don't think this site would be very helpful and to make things worse, they knock bukkit saying "tired of crappy bukkit plugins?" and then they just put one custom plugin up and 4 bukkit... doesn't really seem right to me. Futhermore this site lacks the ability to describe the plugin you desire, as an example, lets say I was looking for a plugin that spawns players where there are lots of resources and away from other players, how am I going to find this? Next, the most important issue not addressed in this site that will be addressed is the comparison idea. Since they only recommend better plugins and they only have 5, there recommendations aren't all that great. Plus, they don't give the reason why the plugin is better in there mind. Plugin developers can be very bias toward there own plugins and therefore we need to explain why one plugin is better than the other, otherwise it's just pointless advertising. Finally, the reason why I DON'T want to make a website devoted to this is because Bukkit is a huge and GREAT community. The reason why we have threads on bukkit is because this is by far and away the leading source for bukkit plugins and for that reason, anything to do with plugins is best suited here, not on some forgien website. Does that make sense? That last point was a little confusing and as always thanks for your feedback. I think you have some great points.
