The oblm to this is simple, you will need to forward the port of your server. the port is '25565'

This site will help you do what you need to get it working. www.portforward.com

Did you put your ip in server-ip= section?

no, it means another process is using the port for something else.

bramhaag restart computer to get rid of stray processes, try again

    you didn't port forward correctly
that has nothing to do with it.

I was asking to provide him support. If he ran OS X or linux, I would have asked him to do "pidof java" and then "kill -9 <pid>"

Also, port forwarding has nothing to do with this. A program can bind to a port on your computer without your router's ports being open.

Because you're wrong... You can run a server without port forwarding, so there is no reason open ports would cause this issue.

After starting up your Minecraft server for the first time, you need to type 'stop' to stop the server. If you hit x to close the window, the server port is still running in the background. The only way I found to solve this is by restarting your computer.

    Yes, U are right.
This is a frequently made mistake.
Restarting is the only way to fix this error.
