Ok now please stop me if this is not possible. But could there be a way to implement capes with a server side plugin, that would allow users to be assigned capes which are seen by the client but they do not need to install any files whatsoever? I know this mod http://www.mccapes.com Allows users with the same mod to see one another capes, but i am looking for this as a sort of reward that could be used on servers, such as to identify admins or mods? If there is already a plugin to do this please redirect, But just as a not i am looking or this to be purely bukkit, not spoutcraft or any modded types of servers.

    Thanks :D

I think this would need Spout to be made.

Not possible without a client mod or hacking into the minecraft cape dir.

I understand, But how are the capes from minecon or the mojang staff capes able to be seen by any player without any modification?

I want to copy the same procedure that those capes use.

Those are minecon capes, implemented from Mojang. Unless you're a Minecraft developer you cant use the same procedure. I'm not sure how they do it, because I've gone through the code of minecraft and haven't seen any names other than some of the developers.
In other words, you would have to hack Mojang, and would possibly go to jail if you were to use this procedure.

BECAUSE THEY ARE IMPLEMENTED BY MOJANG (COMPANY THAT CREATED MINECRAFT). THOSE CAPE ARE OFFICIAL! DO YOU GET IT NOW?

After I posted the other reply, I realized more. I kept the other one there because it might be correct.

You know how the Minecraft Launcher (At the login page) has different text on it during every update/special event, even though you don't use "Force Update"? The capes are the same feature. You cannot see the future updates in the .minecraft, but they are there when Mojang edits the "Main program." I'm pretty sure that the capes are there in the same way. You cant see them, but they're there in the "Main Program."

    If you didn't understand that, let me put it in a simpler way;
    It cannot be done.

Ok i understand, But how do plugins like disguise craft make players look like other players? Im not looking for me to be able to see my own cape, I'm looking for other players to see a fake cape on me? Do you get it? Or is that not possible either? Is there a way to lets say use the same components as disguise-craft and take a official cape and mimic it onto any player of my choice? Or even such as the deadmau5 ears, just copy the ear portion of his skin and place it onto any-other player, but the player themselves does not see it only other players?

The cape would be an extra part of the body figure. If this plugin were made, it would just be client-side for you. So it would be the same as having MCCapes.

Ok, but could you please explain, i want to know why disguisecraft is able to disguise players with out any client-side mods.

Bukkit's API allows for you to vanish and disguise as other entities, or even other players. You can do certain things like changing the color of the tag above your head and stuff like that. However, it's just physically impossible to give capes to people without mods.

There's something hard-coded into the Minecraft client that checks a Mojang server for a list of people to give capes to. Without mods editing your Minecraft client, you can't give people capes and have them visible to everyone. Sorry to say, I wish it was possible. :(

  15. Disguisecraft sends the player packet with information of fake mobs in place of players and does not show the players.
Your request is not possible without a client mod or hacking mojang...

I give up. You people can't get it. It's not possible without a client side mod since the capes are stored externally the same way skins are. -.-

This actually can be done but it requires a player to use a spoutcraft to see it. Spoutcraft is not a modification but another client. If you're interested in the capes let me know and I'll put something together.

as soon as the next spout craft comes out you can do it with either
"skin the citizens" or "player plus" plugins

This could be a matter of days or maybe weeks
Focus on other things for now because you'l be able to do it EASILY next month (fingers crossed):)

Capes are Client <-> Mojang, not Client <-> Server (Same with skins)

Gonna need a client mod to do it.
Wait until mod API is released (like it was supposed to be forever ago)

It can be done with Spout. If you have the Spout plugin installed and use the Spoutcraft launcher you can get an image from online and use it as the cape. All you need to do is check that the player is indeed a Spout player. I have done it for myself before. I can assure you it works.

You do realize that spoutcraft is basically a client mod? Saying it can be done with spout is the same as saying it can be done with a client mod, it is just less hassle then modding it yourself.
