Formal Apology to Bukkit Dev Team

Please read the entire post thanks, It took awhile to write and I want it to be worth something to the people I wrote it for.

I know that no form of apology, whatever the underlying reason, revokes those actions. My apology will not cause the past to change and erase the whole series of events that has unfolded between me and the bukkit team. What should be gained from this apology is how sorry I am that this did have to happen. Not only that but also how bad I feel about the negative interactions with the team. Let me start off by saying how much I really do enjoy and respect, even idolize in some ways, the Bukkit lead developer team. The idea that a group of developers could, without pay, go from what was hey0, to what is Bukkit and CraftBukkit. The number of branches on the Bleeding github repositories shows that there are big plans and that Bukkit will likely carry on into the future, beyond the introduction of the long needed official modding api.

Hundreds of Minecraft servers are powered by CraftBukkit. More even than vanilla I will go so far as to say. The developer community around Bukkit is smart and helpful, helping new developers to get the resources they need to make that next great plugin. I know all this from experience, I was one of those developers, watching the #bukkitdev and #bukkit irc channels to help developers and server admins make Bukkit and CraftBukkit fit their needs. There was one flaw, I have Aspergers Syndrome. I would love to blame my issues all on that, but that wouldn’t be telling the truth. For those who don’t know, Aspergers has many symptoms but its biggest in this case, is how it makes it difficult to have social interactions. Simply put, I have problems understanding what the best way to respond to a social issue. When EvilSeph told me to stop talking about my “I wrote a bukkit replacement in a weekend”, I stopped directly talking about it, because I could tell that this was not going anywhere good.

What I couldn’t, and still don’t really know, is what happened to sour the issue the second time. I believe from uncomfortable conversations with EvilSeph and TnT around two weeks later, is that I began talking about it again, and EvilSeph, seeing that I was talking about the thing he just told me not to talk about, made a good decision and he banned me for about a week. I feel that he made the right choice, there are quite a few people who could get mislead and as TnT later states “Alternative doesn't fit there. You mislead people.” in response to “It was always an alternative and i also claimed it was a piece of junk that couldn't do anything.” I would have made the same choice, I have banned many people for this kind of BS, its a good decision usually. The unfortunate thing is that I really was never sure what I did exactly and so I proceeded to do it again, and again. EvilSeph allowed me back on the channels after that week, but then I proceeded to do it again. That time I didn’t think it was warranted as I was not even sure what I did wrong.

I went and found a free IRC bouncer and evaded the ban about a day later. For the next week I tried to carefully evade the ban hoping that it was just another 1 week ban. It wasn’t as far as I could tell. So I coughed up and confessed that I was still banned, using the bouncer and pm’d EvilSeph, who proceeded to do, absolutely nothing as far as I could tell from my end. Although I did get banned from the channels on my bouncer by Wolvereness, for ban evasion. There proceed to be a discussion/argument as I tend to start arguing despite the fact that it does not bode well for my case. I won’t paste the log mostly because this is a very long post as it is and I ended up having the conversation split between two pc’s one of which was an almost dead laptop that died before I could save the log.

I know many people feel that the Bukkit team and EvilSeph especially are real jerks, that they don’t help the community. Thats just plain wrong, they are just doing their jobs, that irc channel frequently gets advertisements and other crap that the legitimate users shouldn't have to deal with. Not to mention the many immature kids who come on the channels and act dumb when they get board. The contribution to Bukkit by the devs is completely voluntary, they do it because they want to. Which is why I am writing this post, I don’t want the developers to feel like I think they are jerks and that I talk BS about them behind their backs. EvilSeph frequently said “the more you talk..the bigger hole you dig for yourself”, and this may just be making the grand canyon, but I feel like this post is more akin to breaking the shovel and throwing it out of the hole. I am still in the hole I dug for myself, Its just not going anywhere anymore. Thank you for reading this apology. Sincerely, Modwizcode.

Oh I don't know if this will cause the devs attention but as its a letter for them EvilSeph TnT Amaranth mbaxter Wolvereness feildmaster that seems to be the main list of people on irc I directly would have offended and need to apologize to.
