    Hey there,
I'm Sean_DF11, I run a Bukkit server on/off for quite a while now between me and some friends. It has been a bit difficult as I have been self hosting, and I have recently moved house. I currently am in the process of bringing the server back up, but there is something I need to know. I use my laptop which is upstairs and the router is downstairs, I have a computer downstairs which is wired to the router, and up here I am running on WiFi. I was wondering, is it possible to server host from my laptop using the router page, via the wifi? If so, is there something different/extra I have to do to achieve this? I ask this because my parents use the downstairs computer and they will probably complain about "slowness" if I host from down there. Hope you understand what I meant, thank you.
Additional Deatails: I'm Irish, using an Eircom(ZeXEL) Router if that helps.

Yes you can run the server via WiFi from your laptop, but that's not exactly an ideal setup. The normal computer downstairs, hooked to the router with a cable, is the better choice.

Best choice is to talk your parents into hosting the server from the box downstairs.

Alright, thanks, they can be a bit... picky... so I'm just wondering, if it is possible what do I need to do?

Minecraft doesn't care whether you run it off a laptop or desktop, nor does it care whether it's connected via cable or WiFi. It's just a matter of performance and speed. You do exactly the same on your laptop what you did on the desktop PC downstairs.

So I get my 1pv4 address, and I portforward using that address? Correct?

Yes, you need to use your external IP address for others to connect. But you connect using the internal LAN address, 192.x.x.x

Yeah you portforward the same way just do everything the same way to get your external ip go to ipchicken.com

    Hope i helped :D :)

press the windows start button. then type cmd. when ur command prompter opens type in ipconfig. scrool down your ipv4 address (i recommend writing it down). Then go into your web browser and type in ur 1pv4 adress (its different if u have a mac airport extreme). it should bring you to your routers website to portforward. Hope i helped! :)
