   I've got a server that, despite having permissions, doesnt allow players to build on joining! The default permissions allows building, but players complain that they cant. Could an auto op on join be possible?

   every server has a spawn radius.. Have your players go 16 blocks away from the spawn point. You would cause chaos with everyone being an OP

   You can change the spawn-protection=16 value in your server.properties to 0, to disable the no build.
