Hello, im planning to rent new server to host mutliple servers on it. It has 8 core (16 thread) processor, and bukkit supports only one core, so can I run server A on core 1 and server B on core 2 and server C on core 4 etc, and it will not affect server performance if as long as I have enough ram (64gb)?
So can I run multiple servers on same machine on different cores?

  2. if what you say is true, i don't see why not. just be aware that each server will need to be on a different port to avoid conflict.
i tested it myself by making 2 servers with different maps and different ports for each and i was able to connect to each one just fine.
i'm assuming 1 server per core, 4GB allocated to each server with the remainder left over for the system and things like plugins that need MySQL hooks (E.G. big brother and world guard) ?

    Yes, exactly.
Did you look on that does it run both servers on same core or on different cores?

well i in the past have run 2 servers off 1 core(on different ports) and it was fine.im now running 2 servers offf 2 machines on the same network.that was a bit more tricky with the domain names and stuff but a figured it out and is fine aswell

Problem is that running one server on one core will almost use 50%, so 5 servers would use 250% :'(

Anyway, I will test it and if it doesnt work I will create virtual machines with one core for each.

with 16 threads you(in theory)should be able to run 16 servers? lol with 6 gigs tho id stick to 3 or 4 at most(more like 2 or 3)running on VMs is not the best idea in all cases but you certainly do have the CPU power to do so so id say go for that

P.s. i miss read the 64gigs of ram as 6 gigs.with 64 gigs you should be just fine

  7. i dont understand this. my server runs on a pentium 4 with 1.5GB ram the the processor rarley goes above 20% unless i'm world-editing a massive area.
while your server hardware is more that adequate enough, you still need to get your head around managment.
for example, how are your "customers" going to access there servers files to add and remove plugins. how are they going to restart there servers after a /stop command is issued after they have updated plugins and so on.
you will need some kind of remote management interface for each server. perhaps utilising minecrafts Rcon feature?

I'm not renting out server space. My plan is to start hunger games servers, run mutliple on them on same machine, and give my OPs fpt access or something so they can help me to adminstrate them.
I will rent the server and see how does it work.
    Thank you :)

  10. that makes no sense at all..

How many hunger games servers are there?
    Keep in mind internet speed.

    I think 3 - 5 or more if possible. 1gbps :D

My english is pretty bad sometimes, I mean I will rent the server for myself
