With the Minecraft 1.3 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.3. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the size of the impending 1.3 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.3. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.3 preview was made available to the public, a lot of things were added, removed and changed in Minecraft from 1.2.5 and, as such, this update requires more work than usual to get things up and running. That being said, we'll continue to do our best to get an update out within a reasonable amount of time and will likely follow our usual policy of promoting the first Recommended Build the moment we get something that compiles and runs without any testing done whatsoever.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.2.5 builds since our last RB, we'll be promoting a new Recommended Build shortly. This is done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.3 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.2.5 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

I agree with CraftMeCake. I'm not in a super rush but i think that this release is exceptionally slow. Didn't the CraftBukkit staff start working at pre-release?

yea, I've seen the effect in other communities I've been in (outerworlds i used to world-wipe every so often) and alot of MUD's wipe every year or two. I was more concerned over the infra i put in.
but i think i can make a schematic of the spawn, and of course menu-plugins will save their settings so i can just resync those.
So i guess its a tossup between designing a new spawn and finding a way to make my existing spawn match the environment perhaps.
Have you seen the temples yet? i had a quick mess about in SSP but didnt really look enough to see one.
and is this likely to mess up any plugins? i can imagine mutliworld needing an update to deal with new world parameters.

Sigh... It's like this every time a major update comes out. You just learn to live with it.

The prerelease was for 1.3.1. on the mojang site it said that it would be 1.3.1 for a week.

Well my server is very new, I think we're on our second week, and I've been doing tireless advertising to try to get it started. Wiping the map at this point would really suck, but I suppose the players could keep their mcMMO, Iconomy, data from the mysql.

Letting them keep money and maybe inventory they have on hand, stats etc, is a great way to appeal to them.

Let's them know that at least some of their effort can carry over.

I *personally* would use worldedit and voxelsniper to fix our map. But that's just because it's a small map that was made specifically for when 1.3 comes out, so there is hardly any land generated yet.

missdottie: Well ain't that grand, being entitled and all? :p

Do you know anything about coding? so how can you judge if you are fed a line of bullshit, if it's taking too long or not? You have no idea what you're saying, and that irritates me to no end.

The pre-release was not that workable, since Mojang borked the obfuscation (which they fixed in .3.1, which was what, two days ago?) Bukkit is a large coding project that must be updated with the final release, not the snapshots (because the snapshots could change wildly each time, and couldn't reflect the final state of the update).

Now, the bukkit team is hard at work going through the obfuscation, one class at a time, checking what changed and coding Bukkit to be completely compatible with that new build. This is no small task, which to an outsider with no coding experience could seem to be not that hard, but the reality of it is it's an incredible amount of work for a small team.

So yeah, "when it's done" is a valid answer, and your bickering and entitled attitude won't change anything. It will just irritate everyone.

Yes the devs have worked on the pre-release. Yes, they are working now. Yes, they are working as hard as they can.

    No ETA.

Question: An accurate ETA isn't expected. What the community wants is a possible day that it could be released. Will it be out by tonight eastern time? Will it be released by tomorrow, or thursday?

You could at least say "It will be in 6 days", or "sometime today". Or do you not even know that??

We need this update for the plugins, I for one think that the faster this comes out the better for everyone so on know that some people may be working hard but what everyone wants and need IS THE UPDATE so please...

Thanks TnT. I should have just asked more simply....

"Did the re-pre-release 1.3.1 jack up the work Bukkit had already done?" Sounds like a yes. That explains some of the timing that was seen.

And do I feel entitled? YES, I am fully entitled to sit my happy butt down and WAIT until 1.3 is READY! :)

An inaccurate one will not be given.

PunJedi - I'd be lying if I said it didn't add more work. It did, but it was necessary.

It seems like some people are confused about Bukkit in general.
You guys do realize that there are three developers working on bukkit at this point,
each of which has jobs and other obligations that they can't just shove off to the wayside?

It'll be out when it's out. If you desperately need your server back online (just so people could play), you could always download the minecraft server jar, backup your server files, and run vanilla 1.3 and just let people go wild until bukkit updates.

I've done lots of programming, and usually i can tell people if it will be done that day, or in a month.

    why?
