Glassification - Turn sand to glass quickly!
    Version: 1.2.1

Tired of harvesting sand and then waiting for your furnace to turn it into glass?
Skip the middleman by simply igniting the sand yourself to get the glass block drop!

    How to use:
    • Set sand on fire!
    • Pour lava all over yourself!
A fantastic tutorial video has been made for this mod. Made by the brilliant and undoubtedly gorgeous BrandonHopkins (a.k.a. TechHut).
    Video (open)

    Features:
    • Causes sand to drop a glass block when ignited
    • Turns sand into glass when covered by lava

Very interesting. Does this destroy the sand block when used? How about other sources of fire or is it only flint and steel.

It does destroy the sand block, since I still wanted to crafting of glass to seem somewhat realistic still.

The event which triggers the glass drop is "ignite", so I suppose lightning can cause it as well. I have also tested it by running lava over sand and dropping sand into lava, both seem to do absolutely nothing to the sand.

make any source of intense heat (lava, hacked fire blocks) do it, and you have yourself a customer!

Getting the blocks to understand that there is lava above them is proving to be difficult since lava does, however placing fire blocks on the sand now makes them drop the glass.
I'm going to look into some other methods in the morning to see if they can help.

Silly past me doesn't understand me. Version 1.2 is out!
Changed what would normally happen to sand when exposed to "intense heat" for the lava case since the glass block dropped will be pretty quickly burnt by the engulfing lava. Instead lava just turns the sand block into a lava block, unless you guys have a different preferred solution for this sand-lava scenario.

EDIT: Whoops, I should check my responses better late at night. It should read "Instead lava just turns the sand block into a glass block"

lava running over sand should turn it into a glass block, instead of a drop. makes a little more sense, at least to me.

    Can lightning turn it?
edit: err i guess lightning causes fire

Using the MagicSpells mod to summon lightning, I've found that the lightning does nothing to the sand. A different event is called when lightning strikes.

tnt should do it a bit, i saw it on a history channel show once, they test the explosive power of a really big bomb in the desert, and after a few DAYS once it had cooled off, were the bomb was, there was a bunch or scorch marks, and the sand was glass around it

That is a pretty cool idea.
