With the Minecraft 1.3 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.3. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the size of the impending 1.3 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.3. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.3 preview was made available to the public, a lot of things were added, removed and changed in Minecraft from 1.2.5 and, as such, this update requires more work than usual to get things up and running. That being said, we'll continue to do our best to get an update out within a reasonable amount of time and will likely follow our usual policy of promoting the first Recommended Build the moment we get something that compiles and runs without any testing done whatsoever.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.2.5 builds since our last RB, we'll be promoting a new Recommended Build shortly. This is done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.3 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.2.5 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

NOOOOO!!!! D: I've been so ready to start up our server and it's going to take a while before Bukkit is ready... and I'm NOT willing to go to minecraft_server.jar again... Oh well. I'll bet you're real frustrated in there.

You guys always do a great job in making compatible and stable CraftBukkit builds soon after official Minecraft builds are released. :)

There's a need for any serious server, bukkit is needed and I don't think Mojang is really understanding how much its needed, they should delay the release to the public until a stable version of bukkit is available for server owners, there's no way to have a public server without bukkit so you can be sure if there's no 1.3 update of craftbukkit ready when the 1.3 is out, a load of people will be really angry, including a load of server admins that won't be able to keep up with the constant load of players asking them why their server isn't on 1.3 yet, and to be even worst, even if they get a good port in time for the real release of the 1.3, most servers won't be able to upgrade because they need plugins to work with the new craftbukkit 1.3 to protect the server from griefing, cheating, hacking, bug abuse and such before upgrading (and lord knows that there will be a load of teams that will look for every bugs or any glitch they can find to grief and make people mad at them on many servers)

Lucky for me, my server is running Tekkit and won't have to upgrade to 1.3 before at best Christmas or maybe after when all the mods used in it are ported to the 1.3 then ported to smp then ported to bukkit... which would take a long time

But for all the others that are running vanilla bukkit servers, good luck for you, I can't imagine how many emails or forum posts you will have to face when the 1.3 is out and the casual Minecraft player won't be able to connect because they updated quicker than lightning without thinking and won't know how to downgrade...

See I kind of disagree, us server admins over at Skitscape.com are not nor will be angry with BukkitDev Team taking there time, would you want a rushed buggy release or a solid hardworked release. We prefer the second option, as many of our members will be a bit angry or confused as to why we are not upgrading to 1.3 right away it is still okay to take it easy and let the Devs do their thing. Yes server activity may drop substantially but it is nothing that we haven't most likely dealt with during previous Minecraft Updates (Ex. 1.8,1.1....). In my opinion now I would say not to push off the release as there is not a really BIG reason to, plenty of single player players may not be happy with that. Staying on 1.2.5 for a week or so won't hurt servers that bad, BukkitDev's keep it up. :)

I agree with dodge ive already been pmed to death ive gotton over 100 pms in the last 4 days and if they cant give devs time to work on plugins that means a week or 2 after the release of 1.3 and one more thing didnt half the bukkit make the 1.3 you think they have a dev build ready with the pre release
    just a thought

I'm going to ignore half your sentence and answer the relevant part: The team that got hired by mojang does not do updates (they can, but they don't).

The new team (Me, Amaranth and Wolvereness ) do updates. Even if the old team worked on bukkit, they have to work with the old tools. Knowing the source would not help them update.

right they can but they dont so now mojang is more important then bukkit? before they started with mojang i use to see them post all over this place now it seems like their just ghosts here

If I was working full time for Mojang, I'd be playing with minecraft all day even when I didn't have to work. ;)

So yes, a real job is more important than Bukkit.

you said it not me to they care more about mojang then bukkit not very good considering alot of server admins put their server first.in early may it was tweeted that the 1.3 release would be end of june then unknown then aug 1 now with important plug in updates and the devs waiting for bukkit before they can update you might be looking at 2nd week in august and like dodge said minecraft users are going to click update on aug 1st and now we got to answer to our members and get to say that bukkit cares more about mojang then their own creation of bukkit
    Really ????
we put our hearts in this game just to be told when were done were done deal with it

You peeps are doing a great job, though I don't have the need to discuss the business model of bukkit.
But I wouldn't mind that bukkit sets a subscription so we can actualy get you people real jobs.

Notch maybe made 10% of the *real* game and gets all the credit, while all plugin developers, mod makers an bukkit developers are just don't get enough appreciation, you people make the community, the fun, the action, Multiplayer, and so much updates that Mojang should be ashamed.

I thank you for everything u have done to upgrade the bar skeleton that Mojang delivers, and that could be send to the graveyard if the modding, bukkit, multiplayer, and plugin community wouldn't be that awesome.

I know 1.3 took to long, and as server owners we will have allot of trouble updating, still that is a problem made by bad management of Mojang, and u Sir/Madam even as all other developers that work there head off to compensate for Mojangs retardation are damn awesome.

You don't understand what I said at all do you. After you read this post, please make sure you re-read all of my previous posts, because you obviously missed something.
    -------
I have been working with the rest of the team for the past few months. Ever since I was added to the team, I've been working to make sure that you, who doesn't understand the process or even the time and labor, get Bukkit as soon as possible. I don't have to update Bukkit. I could just say screw it and not give out the work I've been doing for the past 2 days straight without rest. I mean, what do I get out of this? I am getting nothing. I do not get paid, I do not see a penny out of developing for Bukkit. I only see people complain *before* 1.3 is even out that Bukkit doesn't care about it's users.

You say the devs have to wait for Bukkit before they can update? What are they going to update? Nothing. All plugins will still work. That's how plugins are designed to work. You mean they need API for 1.3? They don't get any. Not at first. Yes, we had API updates for 1.2.5 before now. Thanks to relentless bugging and nagging on my part, you now have CraftBukkit 1.2.5-R5.0. Normally, you wouldn't even get an RB right before a new release.

Also, Mojang doesn't revolve around Bukkit. They can't possibly wait for Bukkit and countless other groups to finish patching in order to release their stuff. They're a indie game company, they make their own rules. It's extremely generous of them to give out a pre-release a week early. No one can possibly ask for anymore than that.

The admins could tell their users how to deal with the situation, how to play on their servers. But you know, admins put their servers first. They can't possibly run MineCraft 1.3 without Bukkit, no. They can't possibly tell their users to use MineCraft 1.2.5, can't have that.

You're worried that it might take a week after official release before Bukkit gets released? Well then. Maybe we shouldn't have an RB until later than that. Since Bukkit doesn't care. But you know what? Even while wasting my time to answer all your questions, I'm still working tirelessly on making sure Bukkit gets updated in a timely manner. But as you say, I don't care about Bukkit.

Maybe its time to shut up and let the team do there thing.

Or do it your self and stop complaining about it.

I have bin waiting for 1.3 about 1/2 mounts i got a 250 slots server waiting for 1.3. So yea i want 1.3 for bukkit to. But complaining about its taking so long is not the right way. Your making the dev team mad with that and maybe they will stop with bukkit if to much people are complaining about the time it takes to update the bukkit server.

So shut up and wait. Or do it your self. Then you see how much time it takes to update it.

    Heyho,

great to read this again.... same announcement on every new MC-Update,
because all the kids can't wait and spamming for updates.... ;)

I hope to see a first pre 1.3 next-, or dev. build to test a little bit.
(yeah don't say "no pre builds", one time, there was a dev for a pre in the list ;) )

    What's about the new release-system?
Very very few beta builds, only dev and RBs, and no "Next-builds" as back then announced.

("as back then announced."<- correctly? My 1st lang is german...)

Excellent. I shall follow my usual policy as well, of putting the new build in without backing anything up first and letting people come on and play immediately after it boots. Onward to infinitah!

feildmaster well for me you are one of the best CraftBukkit developers that I see around here.
I really have respect from you and your work on Bukkit. So much bugs you fixed.... So much cool stuff you added...
Just want to say thanks for spending so much time to make our servers funny and stable. You are just AWSOME!
Also big THX to Amaranth and Wolvereness for making CraftBukkit enjoyable.
Awesome support you give us for free! The support here is even better then on payed projects ;)

As a Plugin dev I find offense in what people like Toxic_Waste say to the bukkit dev team. These kinds of people are why we can't have nice things.

@ The Bukkit Dev Team: Thank you for all that you do. As a novice programmer, Bukkit has helped me to start learning new tools, standards, and design patterns. All just so I can maintain and write plugins for a great game. I've also learned how time consuming the work can be, and I only work on minor plugins. Keep up the good work, and know that we appreciate everything you do.

Correct. The first RB we promote following a Minecraft update has no testing whatsoever. It simply compiles and runs. We do this because people complain we take too long to release something and we hope it shows people how much work goes into making sure the builds we release don't completely corrupt your world or worse. If people want to run the untested build, by all means, they can. However, they will not get support for it - it is essentially a pre-alpha build (not even a developer build) that has been rebranded as a Recommended Build so people that want to *really* be on the edge can.

I really don't see why anyone would run this build on a production server, but it also gives people the ability to help us test and stabilise a build so we can promote a real Recommended Build, so I'm not complaining.
