To start, here is my OS/Java info:

I am running craftbukkit-1.2.5-R4.0.jar, using the command:

The top of the server.log file reads:

here is the contents of my server.properties file:
I am not running any plugins.

    Okay, so. the problem:
This is my first time setting up a minecraft server. In my house, I have a laptop (which I use to play minecraft, as well as do stuff like browse the web / work / etc.), and a linux server (which, until now, I have mostly used as a fileserver and web server). I decided it would be fun to host a minecraft server on my linux box, so that I could play with some of my friends.

I followed the instructions to update Java and install craftbukkit. I made sure that port 25565 was open on my firewall (Firestarter), and also followed the instructions located here: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/BEFSR41/Minecraft_Server.htm - to forward port 25565.

I have several other computers on my network, so I have done port forwarding before. In my case, the local IP of my linux server is 192.168.1.11, and I have previously successfully forwarded http/ftp traffic to that port. In other words, I followed the exact same steps I have previously used to forward other services to my linux box, but with port 25565.

I started the server, and then tried to log on with my laptop. First, I typed in the local ip address (192.168.1.11) - it logged in successfully, and I was able to walk around / dig / punch trees / etc. - everything was fine.

HOWEVER, when my friend tried to log in from outside the network, she got this error:
    "Internal exception: java.net.SocketException: Connection Reset"
She is able to log in to other servers without error, so I know the problem isn't on her end.

I can't figure out what the problem is... The server works when I access it in-network using the local ip address, meaning that java/craftbukkit/etc are all working correctly. This means the error must be somewhere in the port forwarding or in the router. I don't know if I'm missing something really obvious, or what... I'm sorry if this is a stupid question.

Any ideas what the problem could be? Is there any further information I could give you to help find an answer?

    Thanks!

if your computers are on the same network they can only log on with the internal ip only computers which are not within the same netword can connect through the external ip

Oh, so I can't access it using the external ip? In that case, would somebody be willing to try to log on to the server to see if they can access it?

    The url should be e4n2.net

    Thanks for the help!

Okay, so I had a friend try to connect, and she got the error:
    "Internal exception: java.net.SocketException: Connection Reset"

I've tried searching for an explanation, but haven't been able to find anything... what does this mean? And how should I fix it?

    Thanks!

    Bertware

if your server is on the same machine as your minecraft, enter "localhost" in minecraft as IP
If your server is on the same network as your minecraft, enter the local IP (in most cases this starts with 192.168)
If your server is running outside your LAN, enter the external IP or hostname in minecraft.

MAke sure your firewall and antivirus aren't blocking it.

I can connect to minecraft from within the network, using the local IP. That isn't a problem.

When my friend tries to connect from OUTSIDE the network, she gets the error. She is able to connect to other servers without error, so it isn't a problem on her end.

As I stated previously, my firewall is set to allow connections on port 25565. I don't have any other kind of antivirus/etc. programs that could be blocking it... I host a variety of other services on this server (http, ftp, etc.), so I know that the network setup / etc. is all working.

    Thanks for the help!

    Server Ip = Internal Ip

Your connection Ip = Internal IP

    Public Connection = External IP.

CraftBukkit is a plugin integrated server software, it comes with VERY basic commands, yet helpful commands to manage a Vanilla server.

Yes. I have a linux server box at home that I use for hosting other stuff, and I am running the server on that. I am playing minecraft from my laptop.

But anyway, people seem to be able to connect now.

    I guess it's resolved? I don't know, I didn't really do anything...?
