Hello! I created a bukkit server last night using the "newb-friendly" helper. I got my server up (I could connect via localhost and my computer's local ip address, 10.0.1.6). After I knew my server was online, I attempted to port forward it to the port 25565 by using Airport Utility (http://i.imgur.com/yoDua.png). After this was done, I was still able to connect to the server via localhost and 10.0.1.6. It seems that no other people, including myself, can connect to my server via my public IP address (with the port 25565), which I found at whatsmyip.org. In my server.properties, the port is 25565 and the server_ip is blank (http://i.imgur.com/FagMg.png). I tried using canyouseeme.org and the website said "Error: I could not see your service onmyipaddress on port (25565)
    Reason: Connection timed out".

Do I possibly have a firewall up that does not allow access to my port? I have hit a bump in the road. I've checked my wifi and it is connected to my Time Capsule. My Time Capsule has connection setting set at "Share a public IP adress". The problem may be that I have NAT enabled (Network Address Translation allows you to share a single public IP address with computers and devices on your network). I have 4 computers and one wireless printer connected to the same wi-fi.

After some research, I've discovered something called a static ip. Could someone explain how I get one and if I need one.

Your ISP is probably blocking that port. Look at your internet Terms of Service. It is probably against them to host a server from your house. If it isn't call them up and get them to open up your ports.

to test if your ports are working this is the site made to test out ports like minecraft http://www.ipfingerprints.com/portscan.php
paste your exturnal ip into the slot n put the ports as 25565
CLICK ON ADVANCE AND TURN PING TYPE TO "DONT PING"if it works it should say
    Host is up.
    PORT STATE SERVICE

    25565/tcp open minecraft
    or the STATE will say
    Host is up.
    PORT STATE SERVICE

    25565/tcp filtered minecraft

the service is what your named your ports to b
after if you get the results put your internal ip into your server properties file and give your friends your exturnal ip
you join the server by using the internal ip and they join the server through exturnal
