So, I'am hosting a bukkit server that costs $8.00 a month. That's not bad really, though we are going to need to upgrade soon, due to the amount of players, our slot cap is at 16. I'am adding Buy Craft, which is a very good plugin :D I would rather users be able to help the server for free though, I doubt that is possible however. For now we tried making cool maps and using ad.fly which doesn't work to well :/ So does anyone have an suggestions as to how to make money to pay for the server? I would like to give users the option to ether donate like $5.00 or do something for free (ad sites or something?) I'm not really doing this for profit, if I could make exactly enough money to break even that would be wonderful :D

    p.s.
I never really liked the idea of donating, it puts me in a bad spot, lets say the server goes down. All the users would be angry and I would feel like it is my fault and I have failed them :(

Make sure your server is reliable and of good quality, that makes it more likely for people to invest.
About the payment: do like most free2play games do.
Provide smaller ingame items for a cheap price. (items that don't unbalance the game or ruin it for others.)

Or ask for a small donation to keep the server up and running.

    Some popular ideas I've seen:
    - Colored names/nicknames
    - Items(see above)
    - additional homes

These are all fairly easy to set up, and players are often willing to donate, especially if you emphasize that it's for helping the server.
