Can't. Windows 8 isn't even stable for heavens sake. It's in developer mode.
Use Windows 7, or an official release.

I'm pretty sure microsoft wouldn't release a dev build if it couldn't run a batch or java. Have you tried this in your batch file "C:/Program Files/Java/jre7/bin/javaw.exe" instead of "java". If this "C:/Program Files/Java/jre7/bin/javaw.exe" isn't where java is installed then put the correct directory.

    Fix

    Answer (open)

    Uninstall windows 8.
    and Re-Install Windows 7

The issue isn't Microsoft its Bukkit, Bukkit is not meant for windows 8 yet.

Java is Java. Provided the OS doesn't screw with it, I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Now you're making me want to fire up a W8 VM and test.

I'm I've got a Win 8 VM running...I really want to know now.

Slightly off topic but win 8 = ugh. Feel like its not really an OS I don't know what to call it.

Don't write it off just yet. The Windows 7 RC was awful, but the actual release, as we now know, is pretty awesome.

Oh sorry had a bunch of problems before I could get to this lol. So it works.

Tested on Windows 8 VM with only 1.5 GB of ram dedicated to the VM.

    1. Latest build RB 1.2.5-R4.0, no plugins, started with just the cb jar, local server.
    Results: Works fine.

    2. Latest RB, plugins (PEX, WorldGaurd, WorldEdit, Essentials,etc).. Haven't done this one yet.

There might be a console issue, but I don't think thats related to Windows 8.

Didn't think you'd have an issue. Its java, it will either work on the OS, or it won't. Java is so extensively used I'd be extremely surprised if it didn't work on even the alpha version of W8.

Oh Win 8 is different. Since Microsoft wanted Windows 8 to work on tablets and phones I feel like they built it toward those things and not toward desktops. Its Metro or dashboard whatever you want to call it is difficult to get used to..things are harder to find. You can still get that desktop feeling if you want, but its not the same thing.

You just have to try it..I'm probably not explaining it well.

MS did tackle two major issues with Windows...Windows isn't (wasn't) that developer friendly, and Windows is too clunky for small devices. If you want develop Metro apps for the "appstore" you can (don't forget there is a new release of Visual Studio). Win 8 also seems to run smoothly..I wouldn't say better than Win 7, but pretty good. Metro is perfect for small devices and screens.

As I'm typing I'm seeing one issue...extraction of zipped files seems to be taking a while.

Apparently the final version will enable you to disable the dashboard in favour of a Windows 7 style desktop, so that it's accessible for both touchscreen and mouse/keyboard users.

Another good thing about it is that it'll have better support for AMD's new processor architecture; my Bulldozer CPU (FX-8150) will never be able to reach its full potential on Windows 7 due to the way it handles scheduling, but apparently Windows 8 will be shipped with full support for this kind of architecture.

    bad.

    you make two mistakes:
    1) windows
    2) windows 8
If you "waste" your pc using windows 8, why not using linux? Anyways, the almighty OS war won't fix anything, there cannot be any problems with bukkit because it's java, and if there is a good JVM for windows 8, it should work.
