    Hi,

Recently I went to setup a Minecraft server using Bukkit to play with my friends. They told they would lagg really bad sometimes. So I was wondering what would be the best settings and configurations for my server based on my hardware and internet performance? I usually play with 5 to 6 of my friends, but I wish to configure the server to handle 10 to 12 players at any one time.

    My laptop's specifications:
    ASUS K43SJ
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz (4CPUs)
    8192MB RAM
    DirectX11
    Java version: 1.7.0_04 b22 (64bit version installed)

Hamachi installed but not using it.
CraftBukkit build: "This server is running CraftBukkit version git-Bukkit-1.2.5-R3.0-b2203jnks (MC: 1.2.5) (Implementing API version 1.2.5-R3.0)" <--- from server.log
    Commands used: I'm using Kanshunin's Bukkit Server GUI v1.1.4454 - Link: http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/to...1-4454-a-net-gui-for-the-bukkit-server.27249/
So under the "Custom Memory String for Java", I typed in "-Xmx1024M -Xms1024M"
Plugins: Spectate, DroxPerms, IPLog, Craftpedia, BukkitHTTPD, RemoteToolkitPLugin, Essentials, CS-GUIPlugin, BoxxWorldMap, AntiCheat

    Internet Performance:
I connect to my router using WiFi.
Note: Sometimes I would be sharing the bandwidth with my brother. So, in that case, download would drop to around 26+Mb/s.

I'm fairly new to Minecraft, so any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
    Thank you.

    Hello there.

Im running a server on a old amd cpu and 4GB of ram(using 1GB to run the server) and it doesnt lag at all with 10 people(max i've had). What you can do is, bring up task manager, check how much of your cpu you are using.
This shouldnt rly be your problem but you never know.

You can also get some kind of plugin to tell you how much ram your server is using & how much is free.
As you have 8GB of ram u might aswell use -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M and devote 2GB to your server, just for testing purpose but with less than 10 people you shouldnt have any issues, nothing more I can do without more info

This server should not be lagging at all... This is a nice quality machine. I have some questions though.

    1. How many players average/day and average/week?
    2. Do you restart your server occasionally?
    3. How many people use the router/internet that you're using?
    4. Do you or anyone else use this machine for something else while it's running the server?
    5. How much RAM are you allocating?

    1. Well, I don't have plans to share my server to public as of now, so I'm only using the server to play with my friends.
    2. Yes I do. Especially when I'm experimenting and configuring plugins in my server.
    3. Two. My brother and I. However, I own an iPhone personally, so its always connected to my house WiFi whether I'm using or not using.
    4. Since I usually play with my friends, I will only open the server, Minecraft 1.2.5 and Skype (for voice-chat purpose)
    5. Initially, I allocated 1024MB but wishlord suggested using 2048MB. I haven't manage to test it with my friends yet.

As for the RAM, should I allocate more? Or is the current 2048MB more than enough?

What is your startup script? (the batch file)

Erm, I'm currently using Kanshunin's BS-GUI plugin. So, under the "Custom Memory String for Java", I input the following: -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M

    Remove that part.

So I don't have to type anything into that option? So how do I know what are the commands I'm using and how much RAM I allocated?

That option I asked you to remove is basically "When you startup, start with this, and dont go over XmX". If you remove Xms, it starts at 0, and doesn't go higher then 2048.

Then what and where do I place my commands?

I'm confused what you mean, sorry. Try setting Xms to -Xms256M

Never mind, I understood what you told me. I misread the bold part, so I went to remove the entire line. Silly me. lol.
    Thanks :)

That's not guaranteed to fix all your problems, but it definitely should help.
