    Hello,
i'm about to chance my VPS, now I've this configuration :
    X3430 Xeon (3 cores for me) + 5Gb RAM

not to re-mention, it's a VPS, with some shared ressources.

Now I want to switch on a powerful dedicated server.

    I've got some offers :

    i5-750 4*2.66Ghz + 16Gb RAM + 2To HDD : 48€/month (low-end)
    i7-920 4*2(HyperThreading)*2.66Ghz + 24Gb RAM + 2To HDD : 60€/month (low-end)
    i3-2130 2*2(HyperThreading)*3.4Ghz + 16Gb RAM + 2*1To Raid HDD 60€/month (mid-end)

or maybe, in another range of price, but it might be useless now, and useful in some month ^^
so I can change later if required :

    i5-2400 4*3.1Ghz + 16Gb RAM + Intel 320 SSD 2*120Go : 84€/month (mid-end)
    i7 W3520 4*2(HyperThreading)*2.66Ghz + 24Gb RAM + Intel 320 SSD 2*120Go : 132€/month (hi-end, with 1Gpbs connexion)

I don't really think I need one of the two last for the moment.

What do you think of the first one (48€) ?

    Thanks for helping.

Should be OK, but you may want to check what hard disks the boxes have. If it's anything lower than a 7200RPM drive, then you're going to get lag. Ideally, as a minimum you'd be wanting to run the server on an SSD, but a 7200RPM SATA drive with >8mo cache should be ok.

    I'd choose either:

    i7-920 4*2(HyperThreading)*2.66Ghz + 24Gb RAM + 2To HDD : 60€/month (low-end)

    OR

    i5-2400 4*3.1Ghz + 16Gb RAM + Intel 320 SSD 2*120Go : 84€/month (mid-end)

Those two are the best out of all that you listed. The W3520 is actually really trash, as the CPU is low performing, since it is from 2009.

    Thanks you guy
I think i'll choose the cheapest one for the moment,
and maybe in few month, switch to something with an SSD and a better CPU.

    EDIT :
after thinking about it, for 60€, i'll go for the i7 920 and 24gb RAM, and the host may give me i7 950 or i7 2600 instead, so it's cool if it's the case !
