Help. Yes, I'm a noob, who tried the 'beginner' version of the auto installer.... at the bottom of this page: http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/craftbukkit-auto-installer-beginners-edition-minecraft-1-2-5.26555/

And in my desktop folder set up a Bukkit Server folder that holds the installed files. No where to be found is the craftbukkit.jar file.... so when I launch the server, I get the command promt error message saying it cant locate the file. This is a sad way to start off...but then no where in the help forums did I see anyone else having this simple issue. Please help! Thanks

Yes...which is where I ran into trouble with the step by step ...so at teh bottom of that page is a "community guides" section...which is where I found the craftbukkit auto installer- which is i have this simple issue of a .jar folder not being created in the install files

It will not create the RB jar automatically
You have to manually download the latest recommended build or RB.
    LINK
and you have to update it whenever minecraft updates its much like updating you're minecraft jar you just have to do it manually, and on a different server.

not to be rude but DON'T USE AUTO INSTALLER! if you don't want to be a noob at bukkit and run into problems you cant fix then manually install the server, its very simple and there is plenty of tutorials on how to do such.

but if u really need/want to stay with bat files

here are 4 different bat files

1st you rename your craftbukkit.1.1.1.jar file to craftbukkit.jar

than you put all of them in your bukkit folder and 1 of them will work for sure

if you dont want him to be noob than teach him and explain everything if your so pro

OK, so in my desktop folder I have the autoCraftbukkit installer, and a subfolder it created when we ran the installer. And i saved the latest build/jar file there too- which i assume the Craftbukkit Starter is looking for, as the error message in the command prompt says it can't access the caraftbukkit.jar file in that same folder. So I renamed the craftbukkit-1.2-etc to craftbukkit.jar and the starter still didnt see the file????

well, we tried one simple one, but you couldnt do add-ons and such, so we thought an auto installer that does the basic design and allows us to manually pickan dchose add ons would be simple...but since we cant get an auto installer to run, maybe we'll go to Plan C and try ZeroZX4's options below....

how did this thread turn into a hate center i said i didn't want to be rude and i find it way simpler to do it manually than to try to auto install it, and btw i never said i was pro jackass. i just find it easier

    win/7

    win/xp or vista

although those videos can be somewhat out of date they still work with the most recent recommended builds

by the way, after you completely install the bukkit server i would recommend Crafty (a simple GUI that helped me when i started out and still helps me today,

Well, the older video is too old to help...as Jenkins is down or off line; and going to the download page here for 1.2.5, when I down load, the files are different from the video. Whats frustrating is nnoe of the tutorials match what is available online...so it's easy to get lost in trying to get the write server starter script in the right file in the right folder....

Yes....i didnt know about the gui console. and no, if i dont need the BAT files, Im not going to use them
So I downloaded evrythng and the server appears to be running. 2 questions:
1- in the install guide (http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/bukkitgui/pages/Help/Quickinstall) there are references to this :
IMPORTANT: If your java version isn't installed in the default folder, please go to the options tab, and select the correct java locations. (if java 64 bit isn't installed on your system, you can leave the Java 64 bit location it as-is) Again you can double click to open a folderbrowsedialog
If you want to use java 64 bit, enable it at the options tab. The same for JRE7.
At the superstart tab, you can set the memory for bukkit.

So...I have win 7 with 64 bit OS, and Java 7...so where is this enabling inthe options tab- I am assuming it is running using J7 now And how do you set the memory for bukkit-- it looks like it has pre-filled ( and saved? ) these?
2- so it populated and we'll fill the server settings. No where in here diod anyone metion "port forwarding"- is this still necessary?

    Thanks for your help!

on tab superstart you have everything

and port forwarding is related to your router+pc not to gui

yes, but f/e, where's the help menu with reagrd to when i go to school, do i stop, kill, or just close out of the server? will it retain everything I entered? And I see it kept some of the points above in the superstart- sweet.

well, yes, so now i have to do that for minecraft and my friends to play in our world...i think i can get help on this and realize it has nothing to do with the gui

go to tab options and info and there check box minimize to tray

and so when you close it using X it will minimize to tray < this will hide gui and server will be still running

and to close it you will need to right click gui icon in tray and choose close or exit or wtf < this will close server

as for port forwarding i got external IP so idk anything about it but why dont you try http://www.no-ip.com/ maybe this site can help you

OK... we seem to be up and running THANKS. A couple of questions about teh above reply. Yes, we close the console out with the X, and it is minimized- so its obviously always running. What if we want to stop it runniong- but keep all that we have loaded up. I cant find any info in the guide on the commands 'stop' "restart" 'kill' 'reload' on the general tab. The first time we stop the serve, when we rstarted it yesterday morning, all the stuff we have loaded in had gone!

what you mean by loaded in ?

    and bukkit basic commands r /stop /reload

im not sure if i understand what you are trying to do

to close server after its minimized right click on tray icon of gui and choose exit

you mean that you want to stop gui but keep server running ? < you cant server will close when gui is closed (when you close it from tray)

loaded in < you mean things you build in the server ?or what ?

ow and you mean how you save stop server? than you 1st in tab GENERAL hit stop button on the left (when you open gui it say start when you press it so server starts it will say stop) and after its stop you can close gui from tray

    or type in chat

    stop

i never do that i always rightclick in tray and exit and i never had problem with it
