Plugin Authors: How to hook into Permissions​

I am discontinuing Permissions 2.x and leaving the project. Permissions is not going away though! Since 2.6 I have been working closely with another developer and added them to the team. For the past several version they have not only been assisting with 2.x but also doing a lot of the development of much anticipated 3.x. rcjrrjcr will be taking over as lead developer of Permissions from 3.x forward. I have full faith in them and after working closely with them on the development on the last few version and the next major version I feel that I am leaving this project in more than capable hands. I put way to much work into this project to just leave it with anyone, and this is one of the few programs that I am incredibly proud of.

Many people will probably wonder why I am leaving again after taking over the project just a few months ago. I could quote drama and headaches, of which there were quite a few with this project. Unfortunately real life happens. Many people already know that I have been having medical issues here lately. Unfortunately while they have gotten better, they have not gone away. This coupled with other real life commitments, going to school full time, and starting up my own company, I am currently in the process of being laid off from work. At this point I have so much stuff going on in my life and am being pulled in so many directions that I am not able to get any work done on anything. This has lead to me missing commitments and letting people down on multiple things.

Permissions is also a very high maintenance plugin that requires a lot of attention and time. Right now I am not able to devote that time and do not feel it is fair for me to try to continue to be the lead developer on it. I had originally thought that adding other members to the team would be helpful, but unfortunately this just lead to frustration for them and myself as I just was not able to commit to the project enough. Hence, 3.0 has been rewritten almost exclusively by rcjrrjcr with minimal contributions by myself.

At this point I will be stepping away from the project to focus more on real life and to try to free up some time for other projects and to work with more individual like the wonderful HeroCraft Coding team to fulfill some commitments that I made to them a long time ago and sadly did not come through on. I feel that this is the best for all involved, both myself and the other Permissions developers, as well as the community who deserve someone who can contribute more time and attention to them and supporting them. I do not want to see Permissions end up like many other plugins with an absentee programmer and just slowly wasting away from a great plugin with a lot of potential to a headache with no support.

I will still be active in the community, just not as much as not in the same way. I'm sure my server will be more than happy to have their head admin back and active again as well.

Ive noticed allot of plugins have not been updated to work with the later versions of permissions that you have created. Alot still support 2.0 and 2.1.

I was wondering if 2.4 was compatible with plugins that only support 2.1?

 

Means you have an issue with the YAML. Pastebin your full config file. More than likely you either have to many or not enough spaces.

Unfortunately it's still not working for me
I'm running the following plugins.
Latest Versions:
Craft Bucket build (The Recommended 1)
WorldEdit, MyHome, Essentials (Deleted Goup Plugins), Simple Protect.

Everything loads fine and I can do "give jamieowns x x" in the console however in-game i cannot and in the console it says "jamieowns tried command: x" x being the command.

Any ideas?

I've tried using this plug-in and its great and works! The only thing it did was re-arange the whole permissions config file, so everything is now formated differently.

 

The file that lets me change the permissions doesn't load in the "permissions" folder. When I open the folder, it is empty.

Permissions 2.4 doesnt work, whenever i try to use this commands... "/modgrp (player) member" it says, "Error: This server does not use Permissions" and i know that i am using permissions, the ranks of older players work, and commands work to, according to the rank, but when i try to add a guest to member, i get that error

 

Hey folks! Thanks for the ongoing hard work. I don't like to pester on forums, but I'm honestly at my wit's end. I know it's likely some minor little thing, but at this point, I'm getting frustrated as can be. =/

All other plugins have been updated as of yesterday (2/27/11). I was previously trying to use GroupManager after the old Permissions 2.1 went kaboom, but had no luck either. I've since removed all remnants of it and installed Permissions 2.4 and have adjusted all the formatting, but still nothing. I also tried copying the permissions (listed under a specific group) to a specific user who was in that group to see if that would help - nothing. I'm stumped!

@undefinedarray You sir are a champion. Thank you for that support request/bug report. You get many cakes for such a beautiful example of the right way to do it. The problem is with Essentials (which provides the /modgrp command). If this is an older version of Essentials, the way it checked for Permissions will not work anymore (checked for a specific file that is no longer used). If this is a new version I unfortunately don't know how they are checking to see if Permissions is enabled or not. Unfortunately you will either need to modify the groups by hand or use the plugin that I linked to in an earlier post. I will make sure to add it to the OP as well.

@koneko Well, first off I see this problem. The user JD has this: gruop: Default Obviously that won't work. Also, do not have the Admins group inherit anything as that causes overloading and I am still working on adding overloading checking in.

 

Haha.. silly me. XD Go figures I'd miss something that minor. The user I've been experimenting on (who is supposed to be a mod) is AV. I kinda ignored the other two for this purpose. Thanks for noting that!

Regarding overloading - what does this mean? Obviously, I can see where "too much going on!" kind of syndrome could come into play. If it's "safer", I'm fine with removing the inheritance, as obviously, the admin group already has all commands. I just left it at it's original default ported over from the earlier Permissions.

I would like some help from somebody. When I start my server, it says the permissions has loaded. Then, when I make myself not an op any more, but a member of the default Admin group, it says I don't have permission to do anything. The default group also does not have permission for any of the basic commands I have added.

Overloading is when you give a group the '*' permission and then have them inherit another groups permissions.

 

I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong with my file. All plugins load correctly (I think) but I can't seem to use mywarp or magic carpet.

Still unable to use mywarp / magic carpet. Under Mywarp it says I updated permissions incorrectly (think I was on 2.0). All I did was copy over the plugin, was more needed?

Edit: unfortunately works with Groupmanager 0.99d. Guess I'll have to use that for now...
