[HELP] iConomy development stopped

For those not aware, the creator of iConomy, Nijikokun, has vanished for the past 2 months(by some accounts-last Github entry was on Novemeber 15th). While I normally would be concerned IRL, its not strange for someone on the internet to just stop "logging on". See discussions here about the missing developer: http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/iconomy/

This leaves iConomy in limbo. Being a server owner and having only one consistent economy plugin(iConomy) that ALL my plugins work with disapear is scarey. Its also scarey to think of the next to impossible task of migrating peoples existing iConomy accounts over to another brand. Is it possible for someone to pick up where Nijikokun left off to get iConomy on the latest build of Bukkit?

If you know someone that helped Nijikokun or know Nijikokun. Maybe you can get in contact with them or Nijikokun to get development moving again.

Please help us(server owners) till we can get this all sorted out!

We still run iConomy 5, because there's no reason to update. Plugins generally work with most economy plugins released and econ plugins are simple enough that they generally have little/few or no issues at all.

If it's an issue on a new plugin, just request that the plugin author convert to Vault rather than directly linking to an iConomy. But anyway.. What's the issue with iConomy on the current server version? like I said iCo5 is still working fine

    a) I see him on IRC channel all the time
    b) iConomy is timeless, and doesn't need updating
    c) He's working on a game... :p (rumors from IRC)

If you're having any issues I use iCo6.

We dont know the problem why the developer hasn't updated the plugin to show that latest CB build. And we dont want to update just because it 'looks like' its working as the developer intended on CB. You can only assume the newest CB build isnt listed because there is a problem that the developer isnt happy with.

lol, iConomy has almost turned timeless. Kinda scarey that the bukkit team hasnt made it a standard or made their own standard. if developemtn on it stopped today, there would be a mess as developers economy using plugins choose random economy plugins for their to work with. Kinda like the permissions mess about a year or so ago.

I don't think you really understand the economy systems right now. BOSE is still actively developed as is EssentialsEco. both work fine depending on what you want to do. On top of that there are other 'advanced' econ plugins that are very active. iConomy breaking wont do anything, people will just swap to another one of the good functional ones. And if a developer hasn't been on for 2 months, no actually the proper assumption is that they haven't updated the title because they aren't here anymore, not because it's not working as intended.

Development stopped on iCo because it works.

Also - if you notice the developer is not around, why not even throw up a test server and see for yourself if a plugin is working, especially an econ one. Econ plugins touch almost no bukkit code and won't break until there are some serious changes in bukkit itself.

You missed my first post. I'll itemize it for you. (a) all our crucial plugins work with iconomy (b) we dont want to have to rebuild or find a method to import our iconomy database into some other database (c) we don't know whats wrong with the plugin, you cant assume it works as intended just as you cant assume that there are no problems. Fact is there are a lot to plugins other then the user commands along which probably only account for 20% of the plugin.

Machete.Panda, sorry but you are an idiot. You just keep saying "but it may not work". iCo5 still works, iCo6 still works. many servers run both of these fine without issues, and as Sleaker has said economy plugins tend not to break unless major bukkit changes occur.

Even if the slight chance happend and it all went wrong, its just a database change if you use MySQL, if you are unprepared to have to do a database import at some point in running your server, then you need to rethink running a server.

iConomy built into bukkit? Hell no. End of story, minecraft isn't about money and forcing that upon (whether they use it in bukkit or not) is kinda stupid. iConomy is fairly lightweight and extremely awesome. And yes, it is virtually timeless. NOT something I want in bukkit, even though I use it.

I think you missed everything I'm saying.

    It works with no issues.

Now if you disagree with this statement, maybe you should post a bug report, and ask someone to fix that. Simply saying 'it doesn't work because the developer hasn't been around to update the thread title' is not a reason to say the plugin no longer works properly, and as has been stated by multiple other people. iCo is still working just fine.

then it would be your choice not to use the bukkit version... end of story.

We dont know if there is a problem... the commands work... yes. Is it doing everything the developer intended? We dont know.

I see what you are saying. "Screw you, don't update then! Stay at 1.0.1!"
iConomy works fine. I don't understand what your problem is.

Oh does it? I suppose you coded and compiled it and know every line of code is working as intended?

Im just asking that the damn developers of plugins let the users and at least their donators know if they are happy with it. Hey, we all love Obama, but we dont need to act like him and god missing when something new comes up. In this case for us the CB release.

I think i could have a more intelligent conversation with a rock

If all commands work fine, no database issues, no reported issues at all, of any kind. Yet you still think it may be broken.

Are you a hypochondriac of plugins?

Would you walk into a hospital and demand every scan possible because you have no symptoms? "You're not god, you don't know every strand oh the human body and how it works!"

    Get a grip.

I hate to say it, but you're being unreasonable.

Just because iConomy does not say it works with the latest recommended CB, does not mean that it will not work with it. It works fine, no issues at all. This is the same thing as running a program that was designed for XP on Windows 7. You seem to be getting angry over nothing.

No i never said that. What i am saying is that if your not specifying a problem then what is there to complain about? "It says cb 1337 so i'm going to stop using it and complain to the author." isn't a very good reason to stop using it.

unreasonable and angry? Im just asking that a plugin developer let us know its ready for prime time. Im not asking for blood. And Angry? I havent been angry at all... in fact it was someone expressing your views that threw a 'stone' at me in comment 13.

    Prime Time? Seriously?
Are you foreign by chance? I'm worried that there is a communication error here.

    Machete.Panda

Seriously, are you foreign? Do you think its a big deal to type the CB bukkit build if a plugin is ready? Honestly... grow up.

You know why it's not being updated by him?

The guy is going through rough times. He lost his job, barely has enough food money and is jumping from place to place, to live. You can follow him on Twitter, for his updates on what is going on. He has not vanished, he is just going through rough times IRL.

Also the plugin works perfectly fine with the latest RB, so not being updated for a while is fine, just cut the dev some slack!

    [1337]
That's in the tag, what is your issue?

    Sleaker

Administrators wont update the thread title of plugin developers plugins except to mark them inactive. Thus, no one can change the thread title. Multiple people, including developers, and server owners have stated it is working just fine. Yet you continue to complain about what? A thread title not being changed that can't be modified?

We've already said it. It works unless you have something new to report.

  24. The only thing I need is transaction logging and it doesn't work in iCo6. And Nijikokun seems to have left the developing of iCo (or he just update it only when something will be broken in next craftbukkit builds).
Yea, I see him on irc but he doesn't answer.
Why did he give up the developing of Register? He don't have enough time, I guess. You can imagine what could happen to iConomy. Bad thing...
Did u see it on his irc channel?

Umm... I have no clue why your posting in here causing a fuss if you dont know what build CB is on. Hint: its not 1337

Someone said "he" is going through hard times... but I swore it was a she... so it could all be rumors. Either way, Im continuing to use it. It would just be nice to know that its working as the developer wants. But people in this thread are freaking out about making that request. :eye roll:

If the dev is not here, how do you expect him to update the tag? Or anyone for that matter.

Which would be why I asked...
    Which is the original point.

Alright, I don't even know what you want anymore.

    Machete.Panda

lol... its in the original post. It was the first thing I asked.

I have no clue how anyone in here is insulted at the idea that it's good practice as a plugin developer to update what versions of bukkit it works with. This whole freaking out because someone is asking them to be responsible is beyond me.

    Sir Savary

He's not here, therefore what you want can't happen. Simple as that. The author knows that it works on [1337] for sure, but it may work on other builds, which it does.
