Starting A Server

I been playing minecraft on single player and now i would like to start a server. How do i start one? i tried but it wouldn't work. Please help me

Read every little detail on that page. If you are having difficulties getting the server started, the more specifics you post the more quality support you'll receive in return.

Edit: You can also run the vanilla server application (instructions here)

 

i downloaded that in the folder, there are three things. a CraftBukkit Starter, a Read Me, a Latest CraftBukkit Download. When i open the starter, it would just exit.

 

Edit the "starter" in Notepad and make a new line at the end with the word pause and then save and launch the "starter". Post the error here or use common sense.

 

i got it to work but when i try to join, it says "Failed to login: User not premium"

then login to your client before connecting to server.. however, minecraft.net is currently down, so you probably won't have much success.
