What plugins are not able to do (using Spout): Listed functionalities in GREEN will soon be available with Spout. Strike-through bullets are already possible using Spout. Create a new block. Create a new item. Create a new weapon. Create new armor. Create new food. Show a picture to a player (except maps). Show a video to a player (except maps). Push things in a smooth movement like the original pistons. (Could be possible with Beta 1.8) Create a new monster. Create a new animal. Change the size of a mob. Check if a player has a texture pack/mod installed, or force a texture pack to be applied. Play server-wide music, custom music from a jukebox, or a custom sound. Force a player to join (except NPCs). Please post things I missed on the list. Now with Spout, a plugin not only modifies what a server can do, but also what your game can do if you download Spoutcraft and use it instead of the Minecraft client. If your plugin you want to request has to be able to do one of the things in GREEN, then please tell us your ideas so that we may continue to push the boundaries of plugin development. If your plugin you want to request has to be able to do one of the other things, then please know that it is not possible, and you may not receive a reply to your request. If you do not wish to use Spout, you can still install client side mods on servers using the ItemCraft plugin, but your users need to install the mod, too. Thank you for reading this. This list is an up-to-date revision of Baummann's sticky thread, seeing as he considers Spoutcraft as a modification instead of a new client.
I'd be willing to sticky this, if you rewrite the thread and title to be something more akin to "[READ FIRST] What can plugins do with client mods?" or similar.
Couldn't this be done with making it so it downloads the server mods to a users temp file and runs them off of that?
Hows that? "[READ FIRST] What can plugins actually do (using Spout)?" Thats basically what Spout does. EDIT by Moderator: merged posts, please use the edit button instead of double posting.
Because the moderators don't consider the functionality of Spout to be a true plugin (since they require the "client mod" which is Spoutcraft, in order to have access to these abilities), so I'm telling people what plugins can actually do (using spout, whether or not you need to spend literally 15 seconds to download Spoutcraft). Also, Baummann's sticky thread disregards Spout, so this is intended to be a secondary sticky post to raise awareness of Spout, hence the "(using spout)".
Yeah, but it doesn't address what you can do without using Spout. The point of the thread is what can be done using Spout- not what plugins can do, (and hey, by the way, also what Spout can do).
The title says "What can plugins actually do (using spout)", but the purpose of the thread is saying what is possible through process of elimination. What I mean is, everything I list is not possible, so everything else IS possible, so through reverse logic you know what is possible by knowing what isn't. If you want to know what cant be done without spout, then you have to look on the sticky post by Baummann entitled "What can plugins do?" (hence my knock-off title "What can plugins actually do?") As you said, this post is about Spout, so why do I need to address things you can't do without spout?
...When I started to make my own game I thought of this. Because several other games use it. I have it done, but its for my game. I come looking at this. I was like stole my idea . So if i was to make i would be called a copier...etc. So fuck off.
Showing pictures to a player will soon be available in Spout, and I read that they are making screens that can play videos.
