    Introduction to Heroes
    Heroes is a dynamic, flexible and highly configurable class, skill and experience system. Heroes itself is the hub of your players RPG experience, boasting classes, multi-tiered and fully fleshed out. Along with classes, Heroes offers your players a new style of PvP through our well-developed skill system and our weapon + armor restrictions. No longer will your mages have the ability to use diamond swords, your rogues will no longer sneak around in their heavy diamond tunics and most importantly, you can now hurl fireballs and stun your targets. The best part of this? It's your choice how your Heroes is set up, don't want a certain skill, that's fine, you can just remove the skill and be done with it! We're working towards making everything about Heroes configurable.

    What can I do with it?
    With Heroes, you can do almost anything you'd want to do on an RPG server. The main feature is our customizable tiered class system, which offers as much to the server owner as possible. Your Heroes could be totally unique to your server, it could be the reason players play your server over a server with Heroes but a different set up. The same can be said about our skill system, it's unique to any of the other RPG plugins out there. Other plugins dub "Skills" as methods which you level up, this isn't the case with Heroes. Skills are things you can do which are unique to your class. Some of our favorite skills are Fireball, Jump and Port. This is what makes Heroes unique.

    What will you help me with?
    We'll help you with errors. That is where it ends. We will not be supporting your issues with your configuration files unless it's a bug within our code. Heroes is a big plugin and it's taken a few months to develop, we don't want to spend the next few months supporting silly issues rather than developing new and awesome features. Posting in this thread with an issue regarding a YML file will get you ignored. We'll be OK with helping you understand the configuration files, but we will not be fixing them for you.

    Where can I download it?
    You can download the latest recommended build here. You can download only the primary Heroes jar or the primary jar along with all the skills provided in a ZIP archive. Each skill inside the ZIP is enclosed in it's own jar, meaning you can pick and choose what skills you want your server to run. This is so you don't have un-necessary weight on your server.

      • Permission nodes to set what classes are obtainable for the default user

      • Skills in the base platform of Heroes
      • All permitted skills start with /skill <skillname>
      • Allows for developers to add in their own code for new skills
      • Adjustable through skills.yml or overwritten in classes.yml

      • Based on the permission-node system, ability to set the level required to learn certain permission-nodes to have a highly configurable system.
      • Does not use the /skill prefix - Permission skills copy the original command exactly.
      • Also works with non-command required Permission nodes (ie. Firelord for special armor abilities for certain classes)
      • Example: herosneak.sneak can be granted to a "Rogue" class at level 10 - so when they reach level 10 - they can now use the ability /sneak
    • Binding Skills
      • Ability to '/bind <skillname>' to an item to right click and use that skill
      • Use '/bind' again to clear the bind and remove the right click ability
      • Currently only works for Permitted-Skills
    • Inventory Restriction
      • Armor & Weapon restrictions based on level and class
      • Configurable in classes.yml [DIAMOND]
    • Levels
      • /level - to show information about the level - comes with a nice interface to show you how much left to obtain the next level.
      • Set a mastery level - once achieved the user may switch to different classes and have their level/skills saved on the mastered class.
      • Configurable curves of exp to make lower levels easier and higher levels harder to get through
      • Optional Health gain per level
      • Configurable loss of exp (0.10 = 10% per death) by current level

    Thank you dyrnwyn, but no they cannot do anything. It is a problem with spout not knowing that you craft something to give xp or something like that. So the admins can not do anything about it.

    Several people, including myself, have made the request to move from craftbukkit to spout. my main reason is so that I can get my anti-grief and a few other mods I currently use moved up to date. That said, though, if you look at the dev work being done, you can see they're just trying to get everything working as it should with the current setup, for the most part. I imagine spout comes after they work out the bugs of what's already out. :)

    If I say it in another way, the goal is to have crafting classes, mining, gathering, and fighting classes with differents Xp barre and level ( and of course skills ) for each one .
    This way, we can get more Skills from your plugin for Fighting classes when we get more levels. And we get less craft restriction (using the craftgroup plugin ) when a Crafter get more levels in Crafting !

    Actually you can get a class with, as Xp sources, Crafting, Fighting. But somebody with this class can only craft to get levels, and get more Fighting Skills... while he did not do any fight ! isn't it ? and that's what I want to avoid ; )

    Ok, thanks dyrwyn. I realize it's a beta, but there is ONE question I'm fairly certain the devs can answer. That's the one about certain skills that require you to choose a target only working on players and not mobs. As I said, I saw HolyRane use Smite on a cow in his video. I looked up his configs, but could find no difference suggesting I'm missing something. Do I need BukkitContrib or something, or is this caused by something else?

    Interestingly enough, Smite works fine for PVP and PVE on my server. The one we can only get to do PVP is bleed. For some reason it won't let you target on PVE.

    And thanks Kainzo. I'll do what I can to help make things easier where I can for everyone. I'm pretty good at parse errors and the like.

    I've also been testing out your improvements you guys have been working on with the dev of Heroes. Gotta say, I'm loving the new stuff you have in the works. :)

    I seem to be having a problem loading my classes. When I load the default classes.yml, it works. But when I overwrite it with mine, restart my server, it doesn't work and spams:

    Im running multiverse and I am aware of the errors. Sometime we get exp in another world and sometimes not. 2 of my members of the server did find it out. If party members are not in the same world you dont get exp otherwise you get. Maybe this information is usefull for some of your guys.

    Thanks for the report, multiworld XP is fixed in the latest testing builds so not to worry!

    @Fuzzwolf - waiting on @t3hk0d3 for a patch - then it's a matter of rewriting the way permissions are handled - so it may be further off than you hope , sorry permissions just take a long time to deal with.

    Report any stack traces or errors please - we're looking into cleaning this up and have fixed some in the later dev builds.
    It's possible it may be a future availability - but in the short term we're holding off.

    Right now any Skill that uses an Effect can't be applied to a Monster - we're looking into ways to allow effects (like bleed etc) to work on monsters but it may be a while before you see this feature.

    Have you seen the size of Heroes? To date, it's 145 classes (Java classes) and more will be coming. It took us 5 months, March to July, to make because we wanted to get everything right. We spent hours talking about design decisions and even discussing various things which would improve it for the end user (you guys). This is 5 months of our lives coding and planning this plugin. We did it solely because we enjoyed coding, it was a good experience. Between the release and now, we've received two things. Comments about our attitude and config issues (bar the occasional bug report). Now, after 5 months of developing a plugin I feel I have the right to be a dick about things which are often answered in the first post or are pretty much a given.

    For example, I sit on IRC for 3-4 hours a day, in those hours, I'll get PMs asking me how to fix peoples configs. See -
    Next up, is the people that demand to know the ETA for a feature, like they pay us to work. Hell, since we've released we've got 0 donations. I don't mind this, we didn't code Heroes for the donations or even expecting any. It's just this shows how eager people are to boss us around and demand we help them, but when they can give back to us, they don't.

    This is why I am and will continue to be condescending in this thread, this also wasn't an attack at you, this is just me getting this out there for everyone to read.

    Does this cause issues at all? It possibly could be Spout, but this is just a possibility. The cause is unknown but we've seen it happen before

    AWESOME! Time for me to rebuild the server to support this dev and all the new stuff.

    By the way, some of my testers reported a bug someone else mentioned, I think: When summoning wolves, if they are killed or you log out, then it seems it locks them as already summoned and you cannot summon any more. Just thought I would make sure you guys had it on the radar.

    Actually, one fast question on this:

    I can't even get spout to work on 1046 or newer versions. Right now, I get an end of stream every time i try to connect to my test server. Which version of Spout or the dev build for spout did you use for setting it up? If I can match those up, I should be good to go. Thanks!

    Scroll up and you will see "permission-skills:"
    Just add "permission-skills:" do the classes you want to have external spells and add the permission node.

    Example:
    Code:
    permission-skills:
                Superface:
                    level: 1
                    usage: /cast superface
                    permissions:
                    - permission.node.superface
    Just replace "superface" with the spell name and the permission node with the correct one.

    When I re-load the server, everyone's health gets knocked down to 10hp (default) if their hp is higher then 10. Know why that may be?


    Edit: It's also any time I take damage. I am sure it's something simple I am just overlooking. :(


    I deleted my question because I figured it out. Just needed to create a new Syntax. Also, the Arms plugin doesn't do what I was trying :(.

    This may be because the players files aren't saving quick enough, I recommend against reloading. Stopping and starting the server is better for the plugins.

    No it's not with spout. For some reason Heroes isn't pulling the default value for the Skill from the skill settings. You may want to try lettings your skills.yml re-make itself by moving it out of the Heroes data folder and see if this solves the issue.
