    Feel guilty for releasing TNTNotifier, though it was my first plugin, and I was excited, Also, fireryArrows, there was only one around when I released mine, suddenly, about 5+ got released

    That one is just absurd. Besides being offensive and insensitive, it isn't customizable and there are already plugins for emotes. Even Essentials already has it

    While it doesn't excuse people making 9001 copies of existing plugins, I realize that only so much can be done with the current api. Hopefully spout and mapAPI will fix this.

    Only so much can be done, but it feels like you have understated, who would have though of MoreSnow, my plugin, I intend to add WildPlant, A plugin where crops tend to grow next to fences, has anyone thought of that(actually, i dont know)

    What really bugs me is that people will get the tag for reviving a dead plugin. I'm not going to name any plugins, but I already know of 1 'forked' plugin that is THE EXACT SAME as the original, only that the original was 'inactive'.

    He now has a dev tag, and I'm fairly certain he's 'developed' nothing.

    I'm not saying the possibilities are exhausted, just that it gets harder and harder to come up with something genuinely unique with the rate plugins are getting released. Your plugins are a good example of bucking that trend however. One of the things I've always wanted to do was a full server GUI installed as a plugin with an api rather than a wrapper. I've held off though due to the fact that there are already some (questionably) active gui programs.

    I mean that yours are unique unlike many others.

    Ill be honest my first few were not particularly unique, but Moresnow is one of my recent works, anyway, good convo

    @Specops343

    I can actually think of quite a few people without a fancy purple tag that know more than me.
    Take @cholo71796
    There's also @bergerkiller
    And (although he has one now) @Shamebot went without a tag for a long time, while still being one of the more active helpers in Plugin Development.

    Shamebot likes this.

    @DrBoweNur well thanks :p
    Problem is I don't really feel the need to publish all the time. I see coding as a learning experience for later, and to help others out. And I totally agree, but the problem is, people no longer "code to learn". They "code to become famous", but this ends up with people making completely useless plugins, or plugins that already exist.
    For example: I had to make a certain "world loader plugin" for our server. I know almost for sure that some others exist, so I don't feel like publishing 10% of a probably more advanced plugin. But, this goes into the "lots of little bits vs. a few large bits" debate. :)

    I published the Minecart train thing, because it didn't exist yet AND people requested it. It is always nice to make something useful and unique. I know another category of which "a lot of the same deal" exists:

    Yeah, I almost tagged shamebot and bergerkiller, too. I will say though, even if people look at me as a noob at java, I don't mind, because I literally learn how to do new things everyday, and am very appreciative for the help the community is willing to give.

    @bergerkiller
    But here's the thing that they don't understand:
    The purple tag doesnt make you 'famous', it makes you have a purple tag next to your name.

    What makes you 'famous' (I really don't like using that word, :p) is by coding something extraordinary, and maintaining it to your best capabilities. If you show that you have a passion for producing the most unique and best material out there, then people will start to follow you and become interested in your work.

    But posting the same stuff that is already out there? That's not going to get you a damn thing.
    (Note: When I say "you", I'm referring to the people who actually attempt to do these things)

    The fucking(pardon my language) annoying thing is half of those dont work, nor do the ones for tping to coordingates, there are about 10 plugins for weather, a few of which work and are updated, and for tp, there are three, none worked, two broken, one had a bad link of a direct download
    Its annoying

    I guess one of the reasons why these exist is also that commands are pretty much "fixed". You can only have one "/teleport" or "/tp" command. For example, I could want the following commands to exist:
    I bet no plugin exists that handle all of these. So people make one for spawn, one for xyz, one for this, one for that. Then people notice that plugin x doesn't support plugin y because of command z interfering. If these commands were configurable (plugin.yml is kinda hardcoding, right?) it would be easier to do all this.

    This is just me being oh-so nit picky...but:
    What would differentiate these? :p
    (This is, of course, more of a rhetorical question)

    /tp world would tp you to your location, but in a different world

  22. Lol, if I don't like the way a plugin works, what features it has(or missing) or w/e I just create my own, I don't release it (because I'm greedy, no really my server needs some unique stuff :D) but IF I would, why not let me release a plugin that might be better then the one that is already there? Maybe the Author doesn't want to go in the same direction as me? Maybe he is just a dick, maybe I'm a dick aswell and don't want to work with him? Maybe his support is crap and it doesn't work for more people?

    There are so many things that would make it reasonable for me to reinvent the wheel, yet I do agree with you we have enough plugins that prevent fire/tnt/lava usage (the most common one), those should obviously be filtered out during submission. Maybe a Rule like IF the plugin doesn't improve/change anything the other plugin already does (eg. a plugin that has fire& tnt disabled already exists, someone submits a plugin that disables tnt & fire) it would not be pushed to release.

    Yet if now someone released a plugin that prevents fire& tnt, adds a config file, adds an ingame message. permissions and a npc that pops up and tells you it's not allowed, it would be allowed to be pushed to release because it's unique :)

    @DrBoweNur Or you teleport to that world with a previously marked Location marked by the player that uses the command. :)

    That one's iffy, as that wasn't implied in the syntax.
    But because this is all in good fun, and none of this really matters...
    I suppose I can let it slide :p

  26. I'm not against this plugin getting approved but he certainly should not be awarded the plugin developer badge, not for that.

    I feel a little guilty.

    My plugin, EatMeh is one in a million killing plugins... although, it was my first Bukkit project and I was excited to release it and show it off. Devil's Box (WIP) is like some other redstone spawning plugins, so that's like me trying to reinvent the wheel. With certain things, I don't have a problem with, such as EatMeh. It WILL have more features, and it is actually maintained. As for other plugins, the authors either have horrible grammar in their post, the link is broken, the plugin is not supported, etc.

    But when it comes to those TNT notifier plugins... I saw a few in the submissions section... they all do the same thing too: "tellz admns when some1 places tnt". There is absolutely NO creativity to that at ALL.

    Then there is some plugins that are just... COMPLETELY worthless, like that rape one, linked earlier. Some are rude, and as said above, WORTHLESS. Don't mean to point fingers at anyone who has done this before, (I have a few names I can remember) but I have seen people who want to release 'magic carpet' plugins. There is a MILLION of them! They all do the same... in that case, use the original one, not a copy someone made, and don't go and make your own copy!

    Agreed...

  28. Lol why not? :confused: Some might think it's fun, it's a good prank imo :p. He obviously spent time making it and tbh there are easier plugins out there where people got the dev badge for...

    @Adamki11s
    @Kohle

    Think of it this way:
    You can give the award to someone who made another TnT notifier...
    Or you can give an award to the infi-creeper developer :p

    Pick your poison.
    (Obviously, the best option would be neither, but since there are no defined rules about the 'simplicity of a plugin', both would get a tag)

    Well, as to creativity, I would give the tag to the infi-creeper developer... but as to a plugin that is actually useful... neither. But, the point you made, "(Obviously, the best option would be neither, but since there are no defined rules about the 'simplicity of a plugin', both would get a tag)" is true...
