    Backpack
    Because One is never enough!
    Preface:
Backpack is the ultimate salvation in inventory management. Your standard minecraft inventory has 36 slots in it, just enough to be handy, but terrible for long journeys or mining expeditions to the other side of the map. Backpack nonatuples your existing inventory space. (For those of you not familiar with latin, that's 9x the space).
How is this massive inventory boost possible? The mouse wheel. (Thanks to Edward Hand for the idea!) Sneaking while Scrolling through each of the quickslots switches you to a new inventory page. This gives you freedom to scroll through NINE different pages. Scrolling without sneaking allows you to scroll through your inventory like normal.

If you don't quite get it, I've made a short video demonstrating:
    FAQ:
Is there a way to change the number of pages? I only want certain users to have x amount of pages.
Yes, see the next question down!
Is there permission or group manager support!
Nope! There is however a configuration file (aptly named "config.xml") that is created on the first run and allows you to customize the amount of extra inventory pages, and who gets to use them.
Are your inventories saved between logins and server restarts?
Yes. Backpack saves the inventories in the same file notch does, in the "player".dat file.
Updating all those files must be slow/I heard that I/O operations are slow.
They are. Backpack is multithreaded, so if you have more than 1 core, you won't notice any lag.
This mod doesn't have anything to do with Minecarts, why the Minecart Mania dependency?
Minecart Mania offers a useful interface for a lot of things I needed in writing Backpack, and 70% of the code is actually in MM. If you really hate Minecart Mania, you can just install core, and disable all of the features from it's configuration file.
    Dependencies:
    Commands:
    • /open <page number>
      • Opens a dialog with your current inventory, and the inventory from that page so you can easily swap items between pages. Quick slots are numbered 1-10, with 1 on the leftmost side.
    • /backpack
      • Toggles your backpack on or off.
    Permissions:
(Permissions is optional, but will be used if installed)
    • backpack.toggle
      • Allows the use of the /backpack command
    • backpack.open
      • Allows the use of the /open command
    • backpack.saveactionbar
      • Saves the action bar in-between pages
    • backpack.maxpages.# (where # is a number 1-9 [e.g backpack.maxpages.6])
      • The maximum pages allowed for the players

If set to false, both (action bar and inventory) will scroll down/change.

Except Backpack 2.1.0 seems to ignore this option completely and always assume it's set to true for some reason, even if it's set to false in the config. ;)

If you have permissions it uses whatever is set there. If it is not set there I think it just falls back to default, rather than the config.
If you don't have permissions it should obey the config file.

If you are using permissions, the config file is ignored, and permission nodes take priority. Read the OP!

So a couple of weeks ago I had asked if you could put some details explaining how to set those nodes with permissions.

Thing is, I'm not, in any way, using Permissions. Yet that option is still ignored by 2.1.0 (and wasn't ignored in earlier versions). ;)

    Afforess,

Had an issue after updating my server. Using CB #860 and the latest MM Suite (minus Autocart), latest backpack. Seems when you use the /open command, pages can be lost completely. Not sure if I can replicate it, but I also have a user that was unable to switch pages while sneaking and he did have his backpack on.

I've disable backpack until I can sort this out. Possible DB corruption?

    - MMZ_TimeLord: Backpack 2.1.0 is for Minecraft 1.5, CraftBukkit 700 to 803. Backpack 3.0 will be for Minecraft 1.6, CraftBukkit 818 and on. ;)

Not to be annoying or sound demanding... But just wondering if there is a update on this. I'm dying without my extra inv. slots! ;) I mean, no rush or anything, just wondering about the update is all.

Yes - while free time eludes me. I work on 45 hours a day in RL, which lives only 2-3 hours for modding. Progress has been made though. Feel free to pay $90 USD for me to take a day off though - I only get paid $10/hr in RL, and much prefer this to my day job. ;)

DOH!, I missed that when I updated the server... I'll just leave it off until it is updated.

Thanks Afforess for all your hard work! Love both MM and Backpack!

I think it should be other way around sneaking changes pages and not just does normally

Not that having only 4 pages isn't fun, but 9 pages is like nine time the fun of normal! See what I did there? eh? Still be nice for an update.

Is there an issue with the current backpack and the new CB RB? Having a problem of after accessing inventory I can use anything on in the quick slots. Have to log out of the server and back in before I can use the quick slots again.

  22. how can i disable all features from Minecart Mania core?

In the last version I just deleted everything from the Minecart Mania config file, Backpack still worked fine. Don't know if that's the proper way to do it tho :p

    Just an update:

I know this is slow and late, but I am now, as of an hour ago, rewriting this plugin. Expect a release within 24 hours.

    Backpack updated to 2.20

Lots of bugs fixes, new saving system. Let me know of problems as they occur.
