I've updated my Need Help? post to reflect this information.

Java 1.6 was released December 11, 2006. Java 1.5 is damn old in computer terms (imo) (released 2004).

    Plague

C iso was released in 99 ;) I just meant that the vital API is the same, so many new apps can still be written to work with it, so it's a good practice to say whether you need some new java or not.

Agreed, but it seems the devs didn't worry too much about backwards compatibility and just programmed based off the newest features. I'm not terribly concerned with this at all, as no one here should be trying to run the server on the same machine as they run business critical apps that require the backwards compatibility. Thus we should all be able to upgrade our Java on our servers.

    Type
    Code:
    java -version
    in the terminal

    java version "1.5.0_26"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_26-b03-376-9M3263)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_26-156, mixed mode, sharing)

is what I got back, but I dont know where to download any later versions of java, when i go to the Oracle site it says that MAC's use the software update to get the newest version of java, yet there are no updates for it in the software update.

You need Snow Leopard to run it properly
