    Staff Update - July 1, 2013:
This thread is not from 2013. This thread is about the 2011, BETA version of Minecraft 1.6. There is no ETA for the 2013 Minecraft 1.6 update, as always. Please do not ask staff about when an update will happen, as they have no estimate for you. Again, this thread is not relevant to today's update.

    Update 2 - June 23, 2011 at 9:12PM EST:
    New Recommended Build #928.

This Recommended Build addresses a few API issues and provides Plugin Developers with more events to work with, allowing more awesome plugins to be made. Unfortunately, this new RB WILL break some plugins (mostly plugins that deal with controlling a player's movement - details can be found near the end of this announcement). As always, please be sure to backup your server before updating just in case!

See this post for more information.

    Update - May 30th, 2011 at 5:55PM EST:
Since the release of Minecraft 1.6, we've seen quite a few rapid-fire bugfix updates from Mojang addressing issues the community has noticed and reported back on. While we're glad Mojang are on top of things and getting updates out there quickly to improve the community's experience, this does result in extra work on our part since we have to re-do some of the work we've completed for the previous update. As a result, I made the decision to hold off on getting a build out for Minecraft 1.6 until we were able to evaluate the update and decide if that is what we feel we should do or not.

Over the weekend, that is what we have been busy doing. Unfortunately, I was out of town and unable to handle the situation as much as I would have liked, leading to a lack of communication on our part with you guys, our community. Nevertheless, my team was happily and diligently working on the update and in regular contact with me. Still, I would like to apologise for our lack of communication, I simply was not in a position to do so.

That being said, we have noticed a few issues with the update that we've been able to address, so we are leaning towards bringing out a build for Minecraft 1.6.5. Though this build may not address all the issues we've found, it is still usable and produces a playable server with a decent experience. However, I am not yet sure if this build will qualify for recommendation.

Please bear this in mind when using the build: it is not fully supported (though we welcome detailed, useful bug reports) and not recommended (we can't guarantee stability) to use. There are some Minecraft vanilla issues that Mojang need to address that are beyond the scope of our project to fix and we are still touching things up (like Nether/multiworld support).

If you want to use the build we'll be pushing soon, please backup your server and make sure you understand the risks before doing so. Once again, we cannot guarantee that it won't eat your cake or spawn tiny creeper babies that take over your world.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I'm sure we're all aware, Mojang released Minecraft 1.6 today (Thursday, May 26, 2011) around 5AM EST and we've been hard at work getting a build out that is compatible with Minecraft 1.6 out. Since the release, Minecraft has seen quite a few small bugfix updates addressing some unnoticed bugs and we've pretty easily kept up with them. Unfortunately, there appear to be some issues with the update that is making the game unplayable for SMP players, so we've decided to wait for a bugfix update before we recommend any builds.

Will there be a CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6?
Given the reports of showstopping bugs present in 1.6, there's a high chance a new bugfix update for Minecraft will be out tomorrow or even several times this week. As a result, it is unlikely we will be releasing a Recommended Build for 1.6 until we have something stable to work with.

That being said, we recommend everyone stay on 1.5 for a while until the showstopping issues are fixed and we can get a new, stable, compatible build out.

You can already get CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6.4, but it is unsupported and not recommended.

I'll be scouring the internet for further reports on how Minecraft 1.6 is performing, but preliminary research and our own testing has revealed it as unplayable due to chunks sporadically loading or not loading.

OK, trying to playtest my server with plugins listed in previous post.. So far npcx causes crash upon join :-(
Edit: Ah but a build(npcx) tested against 815 is up.
and now java crash with no notes in the server :-(
With just npcx on CB817 I get alot of severe Errors but no crashing. probably from my NPC thats in a different world.

What will this accomplish? Also I know of quite a few people that are content with vanilla for their servers.

Ok, all plugins seem to work. removed EpicGates and replaced NPCX with newer build (0.0.2)
and server running smooth.. Dynmap works a lot better too.

New Recommended Build b818 with Minecraft 1.6(.6) support is now available.

Multiworld is now enabled again on top of all the improvements seen in previous 1.6 builds.

While we have extensively tested this build and did not come across any issues, we still recommend everyone backup their server before updating since we are still dealing with beta software even though this build is fully supported.

You can download the latest Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.6 here:

Whoo! Glad to see multiworld teleportation is back! Unfortunately, I'm still getting "moved too quickly" whenever I teleport with a Nethrar portal, although the teleport does appear to have succeeded when I log back in.

AWESOME thanks so much guys. EpicGates still brakes the server though.. well what do you expect from an inactive plugin. :(

Question! Before 1.6.x, the save files for craftbukkit and vanilla minecraft seemed to be completely compatible (as long as I didn't use the multiworld feature in craftbukkit).

But now with the craftbukkit 800 series, a new world_nether is created by default, and, of course, vanilla doesn't know anything about this. Similarly, vanilla 1.6.x creates its own nether world that craftbukkit doesn't recognize.

Anyways, we used to be able to switch back and forth between craftbukkit and vanilla freely with zero incompatibility for the vanilla universe, but can't anymore. This was nice, for both practical and personal reasons (it was like a safety blanket for me, anyways =)

Do the craftbukkit devs have any plans to reconcile these differences, or will this now just be the price of having sweet, sweet mods?

Thanks again for all your hard work!

I think it's just a naming problem. Have you tried just renaming whatever nether world you had before to world_nether, or vice versa? I am fairly certain it'll do the right thing, but I could be wrong, build 818 might change that.

Anyone else getting glitching mobs in #818 in the Normal world, they are glitching vertically very quickly and this only happens in the normal world, in the nether mobs are fine.

Here is a video showing what is happening.

No; world_nether is a world file that craftbukkit creates. The vanilla server does not create a separate world file for its nether.

Example: you start a 1.6.x vanilla server with no previously saved game. It generates a folder called "world." You can log in, build a portal in this world, travel to the nether, etc. Now, if you stop the vanilla server and start craftbukkit 81x, a new file called world_nether is created. Logging into this server, you see the same regular surface world, but if you travel through your portal, you visit a different nether world (i.e. not the one that you access on the vanilla server).

    Here's an interesting "bug:"
Chunks are loading a bit slower than 803, but ice and the four water blocks one below and at the cardinal directions will show up before any of the chunks load.

Not gamebreaking or bad, just an observation.

That would be good. I liked it cause it was simpler then the other teleport plugins. I may eventually use it in conjunction with other plugins.. and if you do update it make /world visit set you to the spawn of the world you are visiting instead of the same coords as the world you left :p got me into some trouble..

Minecraft v1.6.6, Using HD texture mods
Bukkit build 818, No plugins, fresh server, using MC Server

Login, give self: Obsidian x64, Flint and Steel
Create portal, go to nether. Link appears correct.
Go to overworld, create second portal anywhere. Link will go to first portal.
From Nether, travel a health distance, create portal. Link appears correct.
From overworld, create another portal. Link goes to second nether portal.

Links may be based on last player travel/landing, or just your own. Didn't test for that.

Repeating all these steps in SSP resulted in the same thing (using inv edit instead of server /give). This is Minecraft v1.6.6's fault. Assuming others can verify my results, this is a major break of MC, and 1.6.7 should be expected.

tl;dr Overworld created portals fail to be linked correctly, resulting in a link to previous portals. Nether created portals appear to work correctly. This is true in Bukkit and SSP.

<edit>Twitter of this bug. Hopefully Notch can fix this after E3. We can continue to enjoy 1.5_02 until then on our server.</edit>
<edit2>Nether portals don't work as the mod I was using them has them act. My understanding of the nether is skewed by that mod. This isn't a bug and working as intended, as I traveled about 200 blocks, not 1024.</edit2>

Off-by-1 error perhaps? I'll test it in SMP.

    Confirmed in SMP:

    Minecraft 1.6.6, no mods
Bukkit 818, no plugins, new world
Server/Bukkit both installed automatically by McMyAdmin

    - Logged in, gave Obsidian + flint and steel
    - Created portal to nether, worked both ways
    - Traveled healthy distance in overworld
    - Created second portal, linked to nether portal
    - Traveled healthy distance in nether
    - Created 2nd nether portal, linked to new portal in overworld
    - Traveled healthy distance in overworld again
    - Created 3rd overworld portal (2nd manual construction in overworld), linked to 2nd nether portal (1st manual construction in nether)

    At this point:
    - 1st overworld portal consistently goes to 1st nether portal
    - 1nether portal consistently goes to 1st overworld portal
    - 2nd overworld portal consistently goes to 2nd nether portal
    - 2nd nether portal conisistently goes to 2nd overworld portal
    - 3rd overworld portal consistently goes to 2nd nether portal

So apparently after the first overworld portal is created, the only way to create a new, reliable portal pair is to make a portal in the nether that goes to a random location in the overworld. This is a problem :/

Confirmed in vanilla SMP (no mods, no Bukkit) as well.

Edit: Accidentally said SSP before this edit. I tested only in SMP.
