    Staff Update - July 1, 2013:
This thread is not from 2013. This thread is about the 2011, BETA version of Minecraft 1.6. There is no ETA for the 2013 Minecraft 1.6 update, as always. Please do not ask staff about when an update will happen, as they have no estimate for you. Again, this thread is not relevant to today's update.

    Update 2 - June 23, 2011 at 9:12PM EST:
    New Recommended Build #928.

This Recommended Build addresses a few API issues and provides Plugin Developers with more events to work with, allowing more awesome plugins to be made. Unfortunately, this new RB WILL break some plugins (mostly plugins that deal with controlling a player's movement - details can be found near the end of this announcement). As always, please be sure to backup your server before updating just in case!

See this post for more information.

    Update - May 30th, 2011 at 5:55PM EST:
Since the release of Minecraft 1.6, we've seen quite a few rapid-fire bugfix updates from Mojang addressing issues the community has noticed and reported back on. While we're glad Mojang are on top of things and getting updates out there quickly to improve the community's experience, this does result in extra work on our part since we have to re-do some of the work we've completed for the previous update. As a result, I made the decision to hold off on getting a build out for Minecraft 1.6 until we were able to evaluate the update and decide if that is what we feel we should do or not.

Over the weekend, that is what we have been busy doing. Unfortunately, I was out of town and unable to handle the situation as much as I would have liked, leading to a lack of communication on our part with you guys, our community. Nevertheless, my team was happily and diligently working on the update and in regular contact with me. Still, I would like to apologise for our lack of communication, I simply was not in a position to do so.

That being said, we have noticed a few issues with the update that we've been able to address, so we are leaning towards bringing out a build for Minecraft 1.6.5. Though this build may not address all the issues we've found, it is still usable and produces a playable server with a decent experience. However, I am not yet sure if this build will qualify for recommendation.

Please bear this in mind when using the build: it is not fully supported (though we welcome detailed, useful bug reports) and not recommended (we can't guarantee stability) to use. There are some Minecraft vanilla issues that Mojang need to address that are beyond the scope of our project to fix and we are still touching things up (like Nether/multiworld support).

If you want to use the build we'll be pushing soon, please backup your server and make sure you understand the risks before doing so. Once again, we cannot guarantee that it won't eat your cake or spawn tiny creeper babies that take over your world.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I'm sure we're all aware, Mojang released Minecraft 1.6 today (Thursday, May 26, 2011) around 5AM EST and we've been hard at work getting a build out that is compatible with Minecraft 1.6 out. Since the release, Minecraft has seen quite a few small bugfix updates addressing some unnoticed bugs and we've pretty easily kept up with them. Unfortunately, there appear to be some issues with the update that is making the game unplayable for SMP players, so we've decided to wait for a bugfix update before we recommend any builds.

Will there be a CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6?
Given the reports of showstopping bugs present in 1.6, there's a high chance a new bugfix update for Minecraft will be out tomorrow or even several times this week. As a result, it is unlikely we will be releasing a Recommended Build for 1.6 until we have something stable to work with.

That being said, we recommend everyone stay on 1.5 for a while until the showstopping issues are fixed and we can get a new, stable, compatible build out.

You can already get CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6.4, but it is unsupported and not recommended.

I'll be scouring the internet for further reports on how Minecraft 1.6 is performing, but preliminary research and our own testing has revealed it as unplayable due to chunks sporadically loading or not loading.

Please can you put a Stable build of Bukkit as the Recommended Build please so people can update their Dedicated Server's. This would help sooo much until you guys release a proper one.

Welcome to any mod you ever put on minecraft just about... with hmod we were waiting WEEKS for these updates (and back then we had no option not to update.) Suck it up and accept it (and let your patrons know if they are dumb enough to update, that they deal with not being able to log in - this is what I do.)

I've tested things and the only two problems I've had with my 40+ plugins are that all npc's are now broken, and chest shops aren't working. Everything else works, but suffice to say it's not stable until those things are fixed (unless they changed them, but last I checked the chestshop dev insists it's a bukkit problem, not a new feature he needs to adapt to.) Annyway, if you have neither of those you are likely good to go for an update! Don't take my word alone... but so far as I can tell from my limited testing the rest is operating perfectly.

He will be plagued by these things as long as he continues to act like he's one guy that has to go into the office the next day to fix stuff instead of a guy who is in charge of a company and has people working for him who can start on it right now.

  6. the 1.6 early release that you have seems to work fine for me
thanks for being so fast with updating it :)

Does anyone else expect the same returns from notch once this game is no longer beta? Of course they release right before the weekend, then take a day off before repairing the bugs. How does this guy not have a test server? Am I the only one that feels there is something wrong with this?

Would it really be that hard to setup a test group of servers (whom I am sure would volunteer) instead of going full production.

    Okay sorry end rant..

I guess its good that I expect these things from Notch and don't update.

Yeah I would of thought that some testing would of been done. I mean really all that needed to be done was make a server online and let someone join it....and yeah. But I mean crap happens and i'm sure internal testing made it seems fine...but then again it did change a lot of things for multiplayer so you would think it would of been checked into.

...hmm lost what point I was going for....

huhh really notch needs to actually test his updates before he releases them. right now i doubt he even tests the game after he makes the update. because if he did he would notice a lot of bugs that he then has to make yet another update for...

Is the mc-dev repo on github disappearing related to the update? If so, will it be back later? It's a pretty valuable resource, and it'd be sad to see it go.

It's a completely legitimate question when many of us are running servers and are being asked the same question by those who are awaiting the upgrading solution. Any developer or group of developers who put themselves in the middle like those generously volunteering their time for Bukkit should be prepared to communicate when they've begun their update and any estimates they have to completion.

And no, no pre-written clause absolves them of that responsibility. It's very easy for them to post small updates, even if they're of "We're not happy with this release, waiting for a later one." Right now we don't know if they're moving forward with a new Bukkit release for 1.6.4.

I try to be sensitive to the fact it's in beta and that none of us are as yet entitled to consistent and quality gameplay, but they kind of dug this hole for themselves by making the game so widely available. When you have 2,000,000+ owners of the game, the belief is going to grow very quickly that we are entitled to some level of stability.

That said, I think the situation could be made a lot clearer if the update option weren't dependent upon a launcher that not everyone uses and if we could download older versions of the client from minecraft.net. Neither of those should require the devs to go out of their way and it would help avoid a lot of the friction.

If you want 1.6.4 just download one of the latest builds. They work. Just not well enough that the bukkit team are willing to make them a recommended build. This is all clearly stated in the first post!

That post doesn't tell us anything except "not yet". In fact, there are contradictions in the post which can cause even more confusion.

Sentence 1: As I'm sure we're all aware, Mojang released Minecraft 1.6 today (Thursday, May 26, 2011) around 5AM EST and we've been hard at work getting a build out that is compatible with Minecraft 1.6 out

Sentence 2: Unfortunately, there appear to be some issues with the update that is making the game unplayable for SMP players, so we've decided to wait for a bugfix update.

Okay.. so they've been hard at work getting a build out that is compatible with 1.6, but they're waiting for a bugfix update? Which is it? And that was written when 1.6 was released. We're now at 1.6.4. Are they building now that we have 1.6.4 or are they still waiting?

The very first post was 34 hours ago. A lot has happened since then.

It's because the 1.6 compatible CraftBukkit is unstable and not recommended, as said in their post. So it'll be really buggy until they update it with a stable version for 1.6

That's a healthy sense of entitlement... I wonder if you can see your posts the way others see them.

While I agree small updates would be psychologically soothing, let's be realistic... They would look like "Sorry not yet" with the same language and reasons stated in the first post. The bottom line is, Bukkit's people do their best with the limited resources they have and the minimal support they receive from Mojang.

The update will be ready when it's ready; and you'll know because a new recommended build will be posted.

I don't see how the first post is ambiguos at all. They're got experimental builds out for 1.6 but until Mojang patches out the currently showstopping multiplayer bugs (which I gather Notch is going to try to do on Saturday) we can't expect a recommended build. You mentioned the bukkit developers having a 'responsibility' and as far as I can see they are doing the most responsible thing they can right now, not releasing a recommended until they've got something stable to work with. Isn't that the whole point of having experimental/recommended versions?

Sir, i was on your server for a bit yesterday, trying to help out, and explain to you that bukkit works just fine, and i even posted my server up and various people came on and checked, It works fine, and 80% (estimate) of the plugins work flawlessly.

Get a grip. learn to read?

I dont see how. The game is running ridiculously smooth. Smoother then 1.5 did, Maybe im just amazing because things are great on my server.

That's not a sense of entitlement, it's a sense of basic support. I've been on the receiving end as a technical support representative, on the provider end as a software developer, and on the user end... as, well, a user. From every perspective there's value to good and continuous communication when there's any kind of problem or delay in providing a service or product as usual.

They're actively deploying experimental builds so they must have at least some sense of the problems and whether or not they're Minecraft problems or Bukkit problems. Not only would it be helpful for us to have a sense of this, but it could be very valuable for plugin developers who want to be proactive about ensuring their plugins will work with the eventually released recommended build.

  24. Minecraft Multiplayer is currently not finished, but there is some buggy early testing going on.

815 works just ok, unbelievable lag spikes, chunk problems, and a few more that i am too lazy to name. Notch is like 8 hours ahead of me so in a couple hours he will probably be fixing whatever he can. But i swear to god if he creates more bugs it will destroy my W.I.P server...

I'm having quite a few problems with 815 but they seem so far limited to multiworld support, either in Bukkit or in the plugins that facilitate inter-world travel.

    1. The Stargate plugin seems to have buggy controls, depending on what world you're in. However, the Wormhole E-Treme plugin is reported to be working with 814, so I might jump ship to that.

    2. MultiInv gave me some grief, either in its own right or as a result of general multi-world problems. It dumped me on world1 when I had logged out in world2, and I subsequently lose my world2 inventory.

    3. WorldWarp likewise seems a little funky, dropping me in odd places and sometimes dropping me through the world--which might be a result of slow chunk loading.

It's hard to tell exactly where the problems are originating, but there's definitely some screwiness with multiworld support. I'd discourage anyone from upgrading who leverage that today, until things clear up.

I can't believe some of these comments...
Why do people blame Notch for mistakes?
Why do people think he needs a test server?
We're playing a game in development!
    We are the testers!
We're playing an unfinished game, we give Notch suggestions and tips, we find the bugs, he and his company make it happen!
Even though 1.6 was an awful update, he still did fix a lot of other bugs. (Even if it created tons more.)
Seriously, if you're going to play an unfinished game, don't complain about bugs or errors!

I agree! Quite pathetic for Notch to release the game then go off to do other things instead of fix the bugs.

He just assumes his test environment is all the players playing the game and server admins. But, if the mod API and more stable releases don't happen......I think the game will just die off.

I'd be happy with at least an official current status from Notch on the Minecraft website. Does he have such a page? Even a "I know there are more bugs, but I may not fix them for another week" is better than nothing.

Here's an idea, Shut the fuck up?

You're not a forum moderator, if you were, i'd gladly take your advice and follow it accordingly. Until then you'll just have to deal with it.

By the way, i didn't take the time to sit there and coordinate a response to 3 different people on 2 different pages. So know the situation before you make a response to something that doesn't pertain to you in the first place.

But of course, you'll just have another cocky and Logical reply to this message, so im just going to save you time, I'm not going to reply to it, so just learn your lesson and move on. No drama is needed on this forum, and i am not much better then you by replying to this, i still deserve the safety of the "right" to tell you what's needed to be told.

Refer to the top of my response.

You're getting lag spikes? i'd check your plugins. Always test a build with no plugins FIRST. and then benchmark it. so you dont run into problems/performance issues and think its just the build. Also, Chunk problems are pretty much expected. So that shouldn't be surprising. Things are great on my server, WITH my plugins, so i suggest maybe checking some things out, watching the console when users do things? Just an idea.

He has a twitter. Also, blaming notch on a forum that take's notch's software and adds to it is pretty redundant. Im not necessarily directing this towards you, Just stating my opinion.
