    Staff Update - July 1, 2013:
This thread is not from 2013. This thread is about the 2011, BETA version of Minecraft 1.6. There is no ETA for the 2013 Minecraft 1.6 update, as always. Please do not ask staff about when an update will happen, as they have no estimate for you. Again, this thread is not relevant to today's update.

    Update 2 - June 23, 2011 at 9:12PM EST:
    New Recommended Build #928.

This Recommended Build addresses a few API issues and provides Plugin Developers with more events to work with, allowing more awesome plugins to be made. Unfortunately, this new RB WILL break some plugins (mostly plugins that deal with controlling a player's movement - details can be found near the end of this announcement). As always, please be sure to backup your server before updating just in case!

See this post for more information.

    Update - May 30th, 2011 at 5:55PM EST:
Since the release of Minecraft 1.6, we've seen quite a few rapid-fire bugfix updates from Mojang addressing issues the community has noticed and reported back on. While we're glad Mojang are on top of things and getting updates out there quickly to improve the community's experience, this does result in extra work on our part since we have to re-do some of the work we've completed for the previous update. As a result, I made the decision to hold off on getting a build out for Minecraft 1.6 until we were able to evaluate the update and decide if that is what we feel we should do or not.

Over the weekend, that is what we have been busy doing. Unfortunately, I was out of town and unable to handle the situation as much as I would have liked, leading to a lack of communication on our part with you guys, our community. Nevertheless, my team was happily and diligently working on the update and in regular contact with me. Still, I would like to apologise for our lack of communication, I simply was not in a position to do so.

That being said, we have noticed a few issues with the update that we've been able to address, so we are leaning towards bringing out a build for Minecraft 1.6.5. Though this build may not address all the issues we've found, it is still usable and produces a playable server with a decent experience. However, I am not yet sure if this build will qualify for recommendation.

Please bear this in mind when using the build: it is not fully supported (though we welcome detailed, useful bug reports) and not recommended (we can't guarantee stability) to use. There are some Minecraft vanilla issues that Mojang need to address that are beyond the scope of our project to fix and we are still touching things up (like Nether/multiworld support).

If you want to use the build we'll be pushing soon, please backup your server and make sure you understand the risks before doing so. Once again, we cannot guarantee that it won't eat your cake or spawn tiny creeper babies that take over your world.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I'm sure we're all aware, Mojang released Minecraft 1.6 today (Thursday, May 26, 2011) around 5AM EST and we've been hard at work getting a build out that is compatible with Minecraft 1.6 out. Since the release, Minecraft has seen quite a few small bugfix updates addressing some unnoticed bugs and we've pretty easily kept up with them. Unfortunately, there appear to be some issues with the update that is making the game unplayable for SMP players, so we've decided to wait for a bugfix update before we recommend any builds.

Will there be a CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6?
Given the reports of showstopping bugs present in 1.6, there's a high chance a new bugfix update for Minecraft will be out tomorrow or even several times this week. As a result, it is unlikely we will be releasing a Recommended Build for 1.6 until we have something stable to work with.

That being said, we recommend everyone stay on 1.5 for a while until the showstopping issues are fixed and we can get a new, stable, compatible build out.

You can already get CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.6.4, but it is unsupported and not recommended.

I'll be scouring the internet for further reports on how Minecraft 1.6 is performing, but preliminary research and our own testing has revealed it as unplayable due to chunks sporadically loading or not loading.

Thanks for your hard work as always bukkit team. Not wanting to take any sides here or to join the flame war that is going on. But chunks loading slow (very slow) on SMP, items breaking and light sources not working is quite... big bugs? Were there any testing done on 1.6.4 at all?

This whole thread is filled with defenses of this being a beta and unfinished software and stuff.

    I realise that, ok.

Pretend we're not public beta testers, pretend we're private paid testers instead..

What kind of developer pushes a major release patch to the beta crowd on a Thursday when planned to be busy all Friday.. and now has chosen to come in on a Saturday to fix it for us (Thank you Notch!)?

I don't know about how you all do source control but I don't push out new versions at the very last minute and then check the damage it caused next week..but perhaps some people thrive on stress?

I have this argument with my the members of my server all the time and they always take a stance against me and defend Notch. It's not that I'm hating on him nor Mojang it's just that the way they "do" things isn't in line with what I've learned about Quality Control. And I'm also trying to be constructive with the critism. Something that is not always (never) appreciated or respected.

Totally agree. The big picture reality, I had 67 members using my server with 1.4. With 1.5 update so slow and buggy, they moved onto other games. Now, just as they start to come back, 1.6 comes out and its a fail. I am hearing the same from similar admins

Its a really cool, new, creative business structure for a game that Notch has created. But, if he doesnt focus and do good professional testing, users will move on. Its just the reality.

The other reality is he is beta on his company's QAS. Meaning, after his official release date in November 2011, he will have to have perfect QAS as he would have removed the label Beta. So between now and then, he has to sort out his company's logistics on QAS. The thing is, looking at his track record, he is going backwards.

As someone who runs a software company, he looks like a person who got lucky with an idea, but has no clue on how to run a business. He is coming out with new games, mobile versions, vegas show...he is all over the place. If he doesn't focus on his bread and butter - minecraft - he will be poor and broke in 5 years. He will be a distant memory. I really hope that doesnt happen as I think he is a mad genius.

  8. Is a poodle a bad or a good thing? I know alot of older ladies likes poodles, but I'm not much for em. Do you like poodles? It's hard to know what you mean before we know if you like or dislike poodles. :)

Oh, and I was boored and none of the above was serious.

    One notice thought.
If a program, game, movie or whatever are ilegal to share and someone post a link to it on a forum such as this, then, (if it's a company that would go after every shared file) the owners of the forum can get sharged for having the link on their site. So if you wanted to be nice and share the file, do so, but please send it as a private message in that case cause the Bukkit team, I'm sure, want their site to be 100% legal.

And I'm sure that Mojang doesn't care that one link to the file exists here, but for the people running this it's important. It's either allowed or not, if you begin accepting some, then it gets hard to stop people posting more and more...

Absolutely, what you're saying is the truth. The truth of truth. The release of Terraria is a good example. I think my server lost half of its population when it came out and the other half is semi-active due to Minecraft not living up to their expectations anymore.

  10. Well. It's beta. Beta have beta-testers and I suppose we are those. So every release until he removes the "beta" at the end, is a release that we are bugtesting for him.

But you're right. He can't update the game and have so many bugs in it once he has released it as a finished product.

So is there a light at the end of the tunnel soon?

Is the bukkit going to be updated by you guys soon? Or are you guys still testing, waiting for new updates?

Any information, updates etc, would be ace....

I don't understand why we are forced to update upon launching the game rather than having to modify the game files to go back to 1.5, which is a pain when half my users don't even understand how to use /spawn to get to spawn, let alone how to revert to 1.5.

When will there be a stable 16.x???

  18. Since it's "Beta" it means that we all are "Beta Testers".
If everyone would wait with the updates and run the old versions, then how would he find any of the bugs in the first place? Can't fix it if we don't use it so we can tell him what he need to fix. Right?

    Ok first off, If you have any brain read the following post;
    http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/oh-no-a-minecraft-update-has-broken-bukkit-what-do-i-do.10662/

Ok now thats said, STOP ASKING ABOUT WHEN IT WILL BE DONE!
This means, STOP ASKING because you just going to frustrate and piss off the developers who are donating there time to work on a stable bukkit update. Would you want to work if you were frustrated and pissed off at the ungrateful members of your community? I wouldnt, So ill say this once more.

    STOP ASKING and STOP SPAMMING!

    That is all, Regards Lynx

Well, I did not update to 1.6 luckily. But once Notch can hopefully fix the bugs created by the bug fix updates (As he said, Ironic.) we can all get back to the harmony of having all our players being able to return and enjoy themselves.

Hmm, due to the pressure of most of my users (they updated their clients to 1.6) I've decided to give CB 814 a try. And surprisingly: It seems to work fine on my Debian server. During the last few hours neither myself nor my users have seen any of those critical bugs which have been mentioned by several admins/users so far. Even most of the plugins (~30) work fine as far as can be said as this time.

    What gives?

I'm sorry, I just own 4 minecraft servers, 2 public and two private and all from hMod times, plus other game servers, and yes, tested, debuged and traced, about you playing in nice playable 1.6.4 servers, where? if not everyone, is complaining about the slooooowwwwwww chunk load times, I just tested 1.6.4 in several java enviroments, several archs (sparc, powerpc and intel) with lots of diferent setttings and all were traced and debugged, there are problems in the rewritten network code, nice to see people able to play such nice servers.

And I am not confused, don't worry. I didn't say it was a final release, you understood as such and I'm sorry if english is my fifth language.

There's a solution for this -- Don't upgrade your client and if people from your server do tell them "tough". Oh, and about minecraft being filled with bugs, you can go outside and do things or play a different game.

That defines a majority of apps in the iPhone world ... I do think he got lucky .. Minecraft is a quirky, fun thing that with the help of mods and plugins has found life through imagination and expansion.. it's popularity spread much like fire breaking out in the game :) .. most people ( even me ) laughed at the game when we first saw it but once you play it and get into it, you're hooked.. you tell your friends and family and they are hooked too.. next thing you know Notch is a millionaire and probably didn't see that coming..

It will work out.. it extremely inconvenient in the mean time..

Bukkit is actually waiting for Notch to release more bugfixes before releasing a Recommended Build. So, if anything, Notch is helping us out by going into work tomorrow. And, I must say, I truly cannot believe that he is going to be working on a weekend. It's astonishing.

"Notch is going to work on the bugs that are horrible!? HOW HORRIBLE OF HIM!"

... Honestly people... does it feel good to bitch endlessly about it?

As aPunch said, it is terrific that Notch is coming in on a weekend to fix things. None of you are losing money, none of you are losing anything really.

    ~EDIT~

I am currently running 814 and other than the stated bugs, things are running fine... definitely not "unplayable" by any means. I am sorry that others are having such issues.
