I logged on and noticed these new sections.

Are these for discussion on things like Spigot?

It is kind of confusing, what exactly is this for? I read that post from Kaelten and I'm guessing this is for support with finding Bukkit alternatives?

Just admit it bud. Spigot is better, no matter what you say. It is more reliable, uses less resources, more updates, STILL BEING UPDATED. You are a complete pillock if you still say bukkit is better. It`s time to stop living in the past. Sometimes we just have to move on.

It is for discussion/help of any minecraft server that is not bukkit (Be it spigot, glowstone, whatever). We find that a lot of users come to these forums for help with non-bukkit servers and we feel that there are people in the community that want to help them, so instead of locking all posts from now on they will be in these sections.

  8. billytheDOLPHIN Ah yes, completely more reliable. That's why we have bugs that only affect Spigot far more often than bugs that only affect CraftBukkit (since Spigot is mostly CraftBukkit, it's only logical that most CB bugs affect Spigot).

ZeldoKavira Kaelten Glad to see that staff are now officially giving up on maintaining the purpose of the site and are changing it into something that mostly considers the numbers.

Just...... lol (by the way, not trying to flame. :p )

I've had crap experience with it. Always lagged, even straight out the box installation.

It has nothing to do with numbers, it has to do with helping the community. If you pay attention to the threads that are locked many members of the site are willing to help out users that are using alternatives. Would you rather be that community that shuns anyone that does not fit in? We decided the majority did not. If you do not want to see anything spigot (or other alternatives) feel free to ignore the section and pretend it does not exist.

And I never had a problem with Spigot. I guess you can say that the end user experience depends on how experienced the end user is.

    We're not, just a good debate. :p

I could say I'm experienced. I've played and ran a lot of servers with friends on my localhost, and done a lot of problem solving with them. Only had a few times when I've ripped my hair out. XD But Spigot, I've always had this lag problem, like if I break a block or run a command, there's this like 1 second delay before anything happens? 'tis weird. Not un-playable, but more like you'd end up throwing your mouse at the screen at some point.

    First off, sorry, zeldo.

Now for the rest of you. Here are some personal experiences I have had with craftbukkit vs. spigot.

    1. https://exileservers.com/minecraft-server-performance/
Read this short article, the server with the 300% cpu usage was mine.

    2. After me and this host found the wonders of spigot we did more testing. We took an extra one of their empty dedicated servers and loaded it up with 70+ plugins, made 600 worlds, and then used one of my bot tools to fill the server with players and get them to run random commands stressing the server.

(Please note this server had Dual Intel Xeon E5 1650v2 @ 3.5GHz 6 cores 12 threads with 72 GB of DDR3 Ram 1866MHz.) Yes the server was running on the full 72GB.

The one running craftbukkit once again used 300% CPU and crashed after a while. And the one with spigot used only 80% CPU and stayed online just fine.

I have got to test craftbukkit and spigot on massive scales and I have chosen my favourite.

  15. billytheDOLPHIN Spigot sacrifices stability for speed. If that's what you want, then fine, but don't ever imagine that CB isn't advantageous in its own ways. :)

In all due respect… Spigot is perfectly stable. :p

  17. jflory7 But there have been major game-breaking bugs present in Spigot but not CraftBukkit. Most recent example of this I can remember was the whole tick issue causing an ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException, making it so no Spigot servers could be run at all... not exactly my mind of stable. That was back in March but I wouldn't be surprise for more recent examples.
