Hey, I am creating a plugin that requires players to play before they can play on their server(once Mojang realizes that they are being SO stupid this will not be required ). The problem is I know nothing about paying money(how to code it). I do not need help with anything else but if someone could help me out it would be great :)

    Thanks!

Mojang should just make Minecraft free and accept donations ;)

Onlineids Yeah but there would be features:
-a few free days to play on the server
    -it does it automatically
-also, there would be WAY more efficient ways to do that

Nickolous14 Buycraft is automatic, and has subscriptions so you can do it for a couple days....

Yeah, the way it is right now is completely unfair for people who can't buy the game.

It's not fair that people get a limited experience without paying the full price (demo mode). They should just make it free.

Garris0n that's kinda like saying "if you are allowed to sell your game, we should be allowed to resell your game to others and pocket the profits"

That's like saying Microsoft should go around suing software developers for reselling their OS.

    Necrodoom

Garris0n not sure how that analogy works, but if that software locks down parts of the OS features and expects you to pay to unlock them, then, yes, that could be grounds for suing.

That's not the part that bothers me. If Mojang wants to disallow "selling diamonds for $5" then fine, that's people selling their game. The problem starts when they decide to disallow people adding things to the game and selling them. Things like balanced kits in a hunger games minigame are disallowed because "charging money for things is unfair" and "we're too lazy to check if the kits are balanced".

    Necrodoom

Garris0n how so you decide if kits a balanced? This varies based on opinion and interception and you cannot make an actual rule based on such as a term.
Also, you complain about kits being disallowed but yet not diamonds even though kits are basically a collection of in game items..?

    Garris0n

I meant kits as in special "abilities" that are not a part of the game, not simply items. If they can't go around deciding if things are balanced, perhaps they should just let players decide on their own. Who wants to play on a server where the gameplay is drastically unfair? And, if they do, why should Mojang be telling them otherwise?

Garris0n enchantments? Particle effects? Potion effects? These are all MC content.
And, yes, mojang has to tell servers to stop doing so because more and more servers are copying the big servers leading to every server having its own P2W store, sometimes with extremely overpriced costs.

It's more fun when you have someone that doesn't die and go can keep hitting that full diamond donator

This is really starting to go back to what I said about Microsoft.

You have to draw the line about who owns what somewhere.

I don't see much of a problem with this, and definitely don't see why it's something Mojang should be controlling.

Garris0n Compare to government regulating market, with market unchecked, big companies form agreements or monopolies on product, which allows them to set their prices as high as they want, and the product can be as cheaply made as possible, and the customers who use the product have no choice but to buy the grossly overpriced product. The same thing happens here, big servers are basically controlling the minecraft server business, and are able to charge what ever they want from the players, and since the smaller servers often copy from the big servers, including their pay model (hence how the dumb term "donation perk" started off in the first place), players buying minecraft are left with no choice but either pay to be able to play properly, or go on a small server, which may also follow the model of these big servers because apparently the minecraft community thinks minecraft is a money machine now.

    This has gone completely off-topic...

@OP: You may want to consider buy craft, as it's already there and it's easy to use. If you want to make your own plugin, you'll need a good Web UI to connect it too, meaning you'd have to know HTML/PHP fairly well. You'd have to get a connection between the two (web page > web server > minecraft server), which is difficult if you're not experienced enough (which I'm concluding you're not, since you're on the bukkit forum asking about it...).

First of all, I question whether this is really true at all, but assuming there is some sort of price-fixing server oligopoly...

So what? It's not like they're price-fixing food, water, computers, anything remotely necessary for anyone to purchase. They would be price-fixing something they made up in the first place. Nobody needs ranks on servers, we're not forced into buying them like, say, how it is with the lovely US ISP oligopoly. If ranks get price-fixed into oblivion, people just won't buy them.

    Aherm...
    OP started it.

Garris0n "If ranks get price-fixed into oblivion, people just won't buy them."
And since, if you want to actually play a minecraft server you'd have to purchase perks, people will not buy minecraft because servers expect you to pay extra to play properly, hurting mojang sales and their business model, leading to this.

I don't get why people hate EA for making their games P2W and full of DLCs, but when MC servers do it, and often charge even higher prices, its OK, because the server owners worked for it and developed it. What about EA's developers?

I don't agree with it, nor do I agree with pay-to-win servers, but I'm not going to storm into EA's office and scream at them to stop. If EA makes a pay-to-win game, I'm just not going to play the game. If somebody creates a pay-to-win server, I'm not going to play on the server.

Also, as I'm fairly sure I said before, I wouldn't be too angry about Mojang shutting down pay-to-win servers. The problem is that they're doing it in a way that completely screws over servers that aren't pay-to-win, as well as the fact that they seem to think (rather hypocritically) that selling something is unfair to people who can't buy it.

    -Don't play on pay-to-win servers?
    -Don't play multiplayer at all?
    -Start your own server?

This is like saying I shouldn't buy an iPhone because Candy Crush is allowed on the App Store.

Garris0n if the p2w servers industry was smaller, I'd agree with you, but it came to the point that if you want to play a server and look at a minecraft server list, most chances are all the servers you see are p2w. With your iPhone example, it would be if any application listed on the app store front lists demand you to pay to be able to play properly. Which is actually not exactly far from the truth on the game applications on both iPhone and android. And forces them to search far and wide for a game that is not too much p2w.

What large servers do you consider pay-to-win? Perhaps we have different definitions in mind.

Pay to Play What I ask
Pay to play does not only allow 'Vip Only' servers.
Pay to play is what they do allow.
Pay to play allows to buy for example Perks or classes for money, But you cannot buy 'Wins' count or 'Popularity'.
So, Most servers are not ruined, the unfair ones are.
All i know, Is that hypixel , mineplex, and other great servers are not ruined.

When the player logs in, you could just send them a message saying they need to pay to play. Send them a URL where they can pay you via an online form like Paypal or Google Wallet, and tell them the email address to send x-amount of money. And then kick them from the server :D
