    Permissions 3.0
Rcjrrcjr has been working quite hard on this upgrade to Permissions. However, it currently still suffers from a number of bugs. The most important of these which directly affects HeroChat is the non-functioning of prefixes and suffixes. There are less-than-pretty workarounds, but I'm refraining from fully supporting an update until Permissions 3.1 is released which should include a number of significant bug fixes. When this does occur, however, I have a build ready for you guys that should work. You can download it here. Again, I highly suggest not using this until Permissions 3.1 is released unless you really don't care about prefixes and such.

See you when I get back!

Is your config resetting when you make changes?
If you make changes to the config while the server is running, you need to use the /ch reload command to make the changes stick. I wish this message wasn't necessary, but people only seem to read things in big, bold, red text (if at all).

Have a problem? a feature request? Go here.
HeroChat now has its very own redmine found here. If you have an issue or would like to suggest a new feature, I urge you to file it via redmine. I will be checking this much more often than this thread from here on out.

Thanks for this great plugin! I have it up and running in Bukkit 670 and it seems to be running nicely :)

I have a feature request and I'm not sure how feasible it is. Basically, log the chat to some log file in the /plugins/HeroChat folder instead of in the main server.log file. I used to play EVE Online and I grew quite attached to having chatlogs, so I love that I can go looking up chatlogs. However, when I go digging through my log file for server errors there is a whole ton of chatlog and my errorlog is burried deep in there somewhere.

If it is possible to make it not log to the main server.log file and instead log to some other file (bonus points if it does a new file per day with a datestamp in the filename :D) then sweet, if not, well, that's OK, I'll certainly still keep using this awesome plugin :D

Done. One caveat, however, is that if you enable separate-chat-log, you won't see chat in the console.

    • Added the separate-chat-log option

Hi I'm having a bit of a problem with this plugin. I am on CB670 using the default config for HeroChat but whenever I try o join a channel, it says I'm already in it however my text is still green and there is a G for global behind my name. Also is there anyway I can add the group name behind the username, like in iChat?

Hello, I read your wiki page but I want to know how I could use following message format:
    Code:
    {groupprefix}{userprefix}{username}
    ?
There is a “{prefix}” variable, but only for the player's prefix.

Thank you so much! :D I just loaded it up on my server and I can confirm that after I changed "separate-chat-log: false" to "separate-chat-log: true" (in the config.yml file, near the top under "globals:") that HeroChat now does indeed 1) no longer write chatlog data to the main server.log file and 2) writes chatlog data to plugins/HeroChat/chat.log :D

Any ideas on how I might be able to configure this a bit further? Perhaps options for each channel to log it or not? Right now, the config.yml section for Global chat looks like this:
    Code:
    Global:
            color: GREEN
            nickname: g
            permissions:
                speak: []
                join: []
            message-format: '{default}'
            craftIRC:
                game-to-IRC: []
                IRC-to-game: []
            worlds: []
            password: ''
            lists:
                bans: []
                moderators: []
            options:
                hidden: false
                shortcut-allowed: true
                auto-join: true
                local: false
                cross-world-chat: true
                join-messages: false
                forced: false
Maybe add a line to the bottom (below the "forced: false") for something like "chatlogged: false"? Perhaps better yet, set it to only log if set to true?

My thinking here is that if I keep a chatlog of main channels (global especially) then if I find some way to post that in some sort of automated way via ftp to our servers' forums or something then people are less likely to be jerks. In other words, if there is a chatlog everyone can read then I think people are less likely to say stupid stuff (because it will be 'on record'.) I don't, however, want to go all 1984 on people and record everyone's private chats and stuff and post that where everyone can see it :p Thus I'm thinking some sort of flag that can be set in the config to set which chats are logged (and, by extension, which are not logged.)

Also, anyway to make different chatlog files for each date and then datestamp the file name? I'm thinking if I ever want to go digging for something in particular (like, for example, I have to ban someone because they were being verbally abusive and I want to show them the chatlog to prove it) then it'd be nice to be able to just sift through one or two day's worth of stuff (in one or two files) rather than digging through the whole chatlog of my server forever and ever. If this is not really feasible through Bukkit, I think I might tinker with some ftp options but it's worth a shot :)

Don't get me wrong, if you don't do anything else with it, I'm still happy :) I just figured I'd ask - can't hurt :)

Thanks again soooo much for getting that update out so quickly, you rock! :D

I was wondering if it was possible to make a certain region only able to use trade or global chat.

Let' me give you an example, even on herocraft server, there's alot of chatter that goes on, and on my server I get annoyed with 912312039120 chat's going on without people knowing how to use the proper chatting system.

Is it possible to have a certain region that has been defined by cuboid, or towny, etc. too join a certain channel when you enter? Kind of like an entity.

I.E You enter sanctum then you join channel <GLOBAL> <TRADE>, when you leave you go back to <LOCAL><PARTY><TOWN> chats.

Not sure if it out of your league, but I hope not :)

@6y7t8h, joining a channel is not the same as giving focus to a channel. To focus a channel and make it the source for future messages, use /ch <channel>. There's currently no {group} tag but I'll add it for the next release.

@xZise, this currently isn't possible, but it will be in the next release.

@Qanthelas, I feel that's getting a little too specific for public needs. However, if the reasoning behind this is to display only certain channels on a website, you can use something as simple as grep to extract the channels you want.

@BioRage: Out of my league, no. Out of the scope of this plugin, yes. This is something best handled by a separate plugin. EpicZones is a perfect example of a plugin that I believe does what you want and integrates nicely with HeroChat.

Thanks for the reply, but I still can't get my head around my problem. Whenever I join a channel, it says I'm already in it, but I know I'm not?

Do the following to confirm the issue:
    1. Join your server
    2. Type /ch list
    3. Type /ch who
    4. Type /ch <channel>, where <channel> is the name or nickname of the desired channel
    5. Type some text to send a message
If you still have an issue after following these steps, take a screenshot of the output of the five steps above and post it here.

Hi, I'm using WAR plugin, and when you are in a PvP Zone, you can /leave, but when I do this some channels pop up, how can I delete the Channel Support?

I just like the color and so one, and HeroChat does the job for me, but I'm just asking.

    Regards,

If you're not using channels, you're better off with a simple plugin like iChat. Channels are the core feature of HeroChat and cannot be disabled.

I'm really liking this plugin at the moment, but I'd like to request a feature. Maybe have a limit to how many channels you can be in at one time? (It's because my server members are really really really thick)

    Hello.

I've recently set up HeroChat/CraftIRC together, so that it only submits chosen channels to IRC. However, I can no longer see the "Player connected" in IRC, which some of our IRC/Minecraft users have requested to get back, but I cannot find anything in neither HeroChat or CraftIRC configs on how to set this up. At the moment, all chat in the global chat is the only thing transmitted to IRC.

So basically I want the default Minecraft-info that when a player joins, to be transmitted to IRC.

    In advantage,
    thanks!

I would love to have a flag for every channel "auto-quit" so people leave that channel once they leave the server. Alternative I would be also fine with a setting that forces people to leave every channel that is not auto-join when they leave the server.

Also, while working with CraftIRC, I realized that simply attaching a chat channel to a IRC channel via the tag transports the chat over despite the even for "all chat" being false (which is good). To transport the joins & quits however, the events in CraftIRC have to be true. This is a bit contradictory to me. It also prevents someone from hiding channel joins in one IRC channel from any other IRC channel. All joins and quits are allways shown in all IRC channels.

    thanks!

I'll consider adding an option for this.

This will be in the next update.

I'll add a global option for it in the next release.

Regarding your second issue: the joins and quits you are seeing are the default CraftIRC messages. To let HeroChat handle this, set the events back to false and set join-messages to true in your HeroChat config.

First, thanks so much for this great plugin! I've read enough plugin threads to know that people don't say "Thank you!" nearly enough to plugin developers!

Second, I'm not much of a programmer but I want to do what I can do to help. I'm decent as a documenter so I offer my services as such :) With this in mind, two things 1) Would you like any tutorial videos made for your plugin? I have FRAPS and a decent computer so I wouldn't mind making some sort of tutorial video for this plugin if you want :) Just quote part of this message or send me a PM or something if you do! 2) I'd like to share the configuration of my working server to help answer others' questions.

I have several plug ins, including this one, up and running and (so far as I can tell) they are all getting along and working. I know when I go looking for new plugins I'm always curious if somehow the new plugin will 'break' my current plugins so I'm posting this info for each of the plugins that I use. People always post in a plugin's thread when things don't work so I want to post something that does work for comparisson :)

Basically, I just want people to know that yes, you can run this plugin and all these other ones without breaking the world.

Please add Nickname Support! Setting a display name != real username like in iChat it mostly configured to have ~Michael instead of miho...

    @Qanthelas, I appreciate the support.

There are plenty of plugins out there that allow users to set nicknames. HeroChat supports any of them that simply change the display name. I don't plan on adding this directly into HeroChat.
